And indeed he just did.  A really good match, JJ looked tired on his own serve.  Less than 50% first serves in the last set.  Well played for everyone though.

AA vs Fed up next!
Good Luck on the Court!!!

It seemed in the Aggassi match there were lots of aces by both players.  That made for short points and when you consider there were three tiebreak sets with the other being 6-4 that match seemed to last far less than three hours.  Many four set matches have lasted three and a half hours when you get long ralliers and many deuces.

Johannson set a new recdord for aces - 51. Beating Krajicek's record from the US Open 1999, he also lost that day, to Kafelnikov.

Agassi quote about the record:

Q. At the same time, every time a player beats the record of aces, loses. Also in the US Open, Krajicek/Kafelnikov, it was the biggest record. Makes the aces, loses. Is it destiny?
ANDRE AGASSI: I don't know. The three most aces, I think they all lost the match. You know, maybe you're down and you even get more risky, you know. He hit a lot of second serves. He hit one second serve 226 K's. I mean, if you want to hit an ace that bad, you're going to get a lot of them.

As far as I can remember, the most aces Agassi ever hit in one match was 19 against Pete Sampras in the 2001 USO QF match that had no breaks. He hit 16 last night, so i'm sure he would have broken his own record had it gone to a fifth set.

Oh no doubt.  Some serious serving.

If anyone has the stats from that match post them here.  I would love to see how many service winners they each had.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

My word!  I hope Blake/Fish kill the Bryans.  Those Bryans are such dorks.  They are the lamest in terms of celebrating points.  Such an embarrassment to tennis.

awww, come on now.  They are brilliant dubs players.  What Fish and Blake have going for them is that they have played against them before and watch them in Davis Cup so they know what they are up against.  if they bring their "A" game they should make it interesting.  :)
Good Luck on the Court!!!

This Aussie Open is looking like it could be first time in a major that I can recall in which the top 4 seeds made the Semifinals...

Well, the moment is upon us. Fed vs Agassi.  Fed hadn't been challenged at all and Agassi was tested last night. It will be interesting to see if Fed can bring out his best. He's going to have to play much better than his 3 other matches. Good luck to both of them.
I've been a tennis bum for half my life.
I'll just be a bum for the other half.

Yeah, Fed has been below average for his standards.  Agassi is the guy who can take full advantage of that.  I hope they both come out pumped as hell and leave it all on the court.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I'm really looking forward to Safin's play later in this tournament. Despite the Fed/Agassi match which will be great, I'm sure -- Safin has been kinda slipping by under the radar and winning tight, and great matches. I am really curious to see how he'll do -- I think he'll really be the only challenge for Fed or Agassi since Roddick & Hewitt are basically jokes as far as playing Fed & Agassi.

Who does Safin have next?  It really has been quiet on his side of the draw.  Do you think Hewitt or Nadal can cause him any trouble?  Have Nadal and Safin ever player?

Hewitt vs Nadal tonight is going to be killer.  I do not care what time it ends, I am watching it.  I think this has the potential to be one fo the best matches of the AO...

51 aces!!!  That's basically 13 games.  That shows you how well Agassi was playing.  It seemed like Johansson knew he had to end points quickly and was going for his shots trying to hit winners.

I predict/hope Agassi's match against Federer goes 5 sets.  At this point, I'm thinking Agassi has the best chance of beating Roger.  Roger, like a lot of you have pointed out, is not playing his best.  Dang, this tournee is getting interesting.  I'm even following the women's results now.

Hewitt V Nadal
« Reply #137 on: January 23, 2005, 02:36:46 PM »
Hewitt has never made it past the R16 of the AO and I've got a funny feeling that the dreaded curse its going to strike again tonight against Nadal. Its nto that Hewitt is not good enough to reach the QF of the AO, its just that he keeps getting difficult matches at the R16 stage: In 2003, El Aynouai and in 2004, Federer.

His previous matches with Nadal have all been close, and I think the spaniard will edge it this time, he has more power in his strokes than Hewitt.

The Bryans are brilliant doubles players but they also have the gayest celebrations.  Little do they know that people are laughing At their dorkiness.
