This slam is no different than the last few for the women. A few of the top players out already and others are unsure.

Henin - out
Clisjters - out
Davenport - unsure - bronchitis
Capriati - out
Petrova - pulled out of a match due to heat, uh oh.

I am still waiting to see a slam when all the big guns are injury free and playing well. If Davenport is out of the AO I will be bummed. I would love to see her win one more slam.

Looks like Davenport play Conchita Martinez in the first round. Never been a fan of Conchita, I hope it is an easy match for Davenport.

I am not sure Serena's was a great match.

She hit 7 errors in the first 2 games, that is ugly stuff. She needs to get more shots in and cut down the errors. But overall, nice win, glad she is doing her thing. Even if her thing is to hit that many errors. She just didn't seem to be hitting all that hard and was still missing.

In comparrison, Federer wins the first 12 points of the match. That would be 0 errors in 3 game.

47 winners total in a VERY short match. Impressive!!!

No surprises this evening. Serena played a good match -- inconsistent, but still ended up with more winners than UEs and only lost two games. Federer was excellent, as usual. But sometimes, just sometimes, I want Patrick McEnroe (who really should stop commentating) to get off Federer's nuts for at least 5 minutes.

BTW, Venus plays tomorrow and if she loses on my birthday, I swear I'll roll over and die.
