To me, they both might be nervous but for different reasons. For Serena, she has to prove everyone wrong and show that she can get back to the top. For Davenport, she hasn't been in a slam final in YEARS and might not know what to do with herself. I'm rooting for Serena because she has more to lose. But I can't say I'd be terribly disappointed if Lindsay won.

It's pretty quiet today out on the women's half.  I am going to predict williams defeats Davenport 7-6 6-2

I'm under the impression that Davenport is putting almost no pressure on herself.  In her mind, she should have been retired by now and all this success is just icing on the cake.  I don't think she necessarily is burning to prove anything.  She's always been relatively well adjusted but in recent years she's seemed to me zen-like in her outlook.  Attribute that to a tall, sort of plump, sort of awkward looking girl finding a great husband, a life outside of tennis, finally feeling comfortable in her own skin -- true love.    

I think they're both going to be playing their hearts out, but I think only Serena will really be putting pressure on herself.  But win or lose Serena will be motivated by her run to the finals.

I am pulling for Lindsey, but she seems a little out of whack at the moment. Her match with Alicia Molik was the best women's match I have ever seen!!!. Hopefully she can put it together tonight!!!.

Yeah, this is Serena's 2nd final appearance in the last 3 slams, not too shabby at all!

I am still torn.  I will probably watch the match and then start rooting for whoever is losing.

50% Serena
50% Davenport.

I have never been torn like this.  I can't even predict who would won.  Serena should of taken some notes from the Molik match.  Slow slices that make Davenport move seem to hurt her.  

We probably have the slowest person on the tour vs the fastest (or close to for each).  But Davenport hits that ball so clean it is like her name is Jeffro!

The hard thing for Davenport is both are such huge servers, returns, groundstrokers, but Serena moves so much better, that it means Davenport has to not only match her in those areas, but have a clear edge regularly in them.    Not impossable for Davenport, but still very difficult against a hitter of Serenas standard.   That being said, as I said all three big name women looked struggling yesterday, Dechy is the only one who showed us her best stuff IMO.   Davenport should only draw on confidence of their last couple meetings which she won.   Also we all know Serena was not playing her best in the summer, but was playing very well at the year-end championships until her injury in the final.

       By the way tennis4you, while Serena might have been your favorite for a long time, she has been my least favorite player ever since she joined the tour.    I truly cant stand her.   I would have been agitated beyond belief had Sharapova choked away her match points like Clijsters did two years ago, but Serena came up with the goods this time so I was able to give credit where it was due this time around, even though the overall match was a sprayfest.  In any case I will be rooting heartily for Davenport!

The thing is that Davenport only really plays one style of tennis.  

Lindsay is going to come out and hit flat, punshing groundstrokes corner to corner.  She's not going to be wondering "what should I do against Serena?"  

Serena, on the other hand, has been known to try different things, for better or worse.  

I don't know.  I have a feeling that Davenport is going to play powerful, steady tennis and allow Serena to self-destruct.  But my prediction should be good news for Serena lovers considering my lame record at call matches. :(

I too really dislike Serena, almost as much as I dislike Henin-Hardenne but I see her winning this one unfortuantely. Neither are playing their best but Serena not at her best is better than Lindsay not at her best, if you know what I mean. Lindsay will have to play to the level she was at during the summer hardcourt season and hope Serena continues to make the errors she has done. If not, I see it being a straight sets Serena win....

I only dislike Serena when she's talking crap about tennis.  

In every other respect she seems like a really sweet girl.  Giggly.  Curious.  Endearingly childlike.  Playful.  Etc.

I like her attitude most of the time.  What I really like about the William sisters is that they really forced the women's side to raise their level of play and the WTA is no better off for it.  Somebody is always going to force the tour to raise their game, I was just glad it was sooner rather than later!

Although I like neither Williams or their attitude, which obviously is personal preferance, I agree with one thing.   They absolutely did force womens tennis to another level, other top women to work on their games, and it trickled down level to level for each women trying to reach a certain level, even the ones with no chance of being among the elite.   Henin-Hardenne, for just one example, has talked openly how she killed herself working on fitness and technically sound and explosive hitting off each shot, as well as mental defiance, to compete with the Williams.

Davenport looked like crap after she lost those breaks points at 2-2 in the second set.  Hats off to Serena though, she played well.  I would of liked to see a closer match so we could see how Serena would of dealt with match points being up 5-4 or something as opposed to 5-0.  But regardless it was a solid preformance from Serena and I could not be happier for her!
