I got a call last night to fill in for some dubs at the club. Someone did not show and they needed me quick.  I ran out and played two sets.  I didn't even know they had leagues on Tuesday night.  I actually played with 2 guys I know from the other eagues I sub in, the other guy was new.  I won 8-3, 9-2.

OSU was playing dumb...  It is a league where we rotate partners.  I was late so we only got 2 sets in, I did not get to play with every person on the court last night.

Played 3 times since my last update.  Oops...

Played USTA last night.  We played pretty bad.  VIC served bad in the first set, blasted in a good chunk of doubles.  We lost the first set 2-6.  The only two games we won were my service games.  I returned like royal a$$.  I maybe hit back 7-8 returns all night.  Pretty poor.  

We were up 5-2 in the second set and i finally got broke.  3-3 all point, they lobbed my partner, he shyed off of the overhead si I slid behind him (we were both at the net) and I cranked the overhead and missed it by a foot deep.  That was set point at 5-2.  We had 4-4 in the tb and they served my partner out wide for an un-returnable serve and that was a set point for us too.  We sucked.

Played Saturday subbing in a league.  I played well.  I got to play against a guy I love playing with or against.  We talk a lot of smack, keeps it fun.  It was doubles as usual.  We won 6-2, 6-1 and we were up 5-0 in a third set that I was pretty much goofing off before time ran out.  I think they had enough anyways.

My first serve percentage is going back up.  Everything else is normal.  Still need to work on my second and third shots after the return of I do not get to the net.  Always room for some more consistency there.

Played today in the same Saturday league.  Me and Guy H played pretty well and beat Tom W. and Jon L.  We won 6-3, 6-4.  I served well, never got broke.  I hit some pretty nasty volleys.  They tried going down my line on the return of serve a few times and I cut it off pretty well.  I was actually hitting extreme angles with it throwing the ball right in front of and past the net man, there was nothing they could do.  I surprised myself with it a few times.  What I am doing really well is hitting angled off volleys.  Now I have a little more time on some of these shots when not playing in the 4.5, but still, hitting them wellllll.

I got to hit with Jason M afterwards.  One of his lessons was canceled.  That dude can wear you out like no other.  He is really fun to hit with.  The dude is like a mini-Agassi.   I think in singles if he was playing more and not giving so many lessons he could easily play 5.0.

Played USTA tonight with VIC on court #1.  We played a guy we lost to in 3 sets last time and someone I do not think I have played before.  One guy is incredibly steady and hits a sweet lower stabbing volley, he is very tough.  The other guy was younger and had a huge serve.

We lost the first set by a break 3-6.  We jumped ahead 5-0 in the second set and dropped 3 games in a row, almost 4 games, had they not missed by an inch we would have been back on serve.  I served it out 6-3.

We started out the third set with a break point at 3-3 in the game and I got aced...   It started going down hill from there and we were behind 0-4.  We get a break, hold, break, hold and get to 4-4.  We get to 5-5 and break and then served it out.  It was a nice win.  Last time I played this guy the third set went too quick and they won it 6-1.  I was thinking we had a similar fate there for a while...

Good stuff in the end, glad we got our act together.

Thanks yo.  Big win for us.  I was just thinking the other day that VIC and I either get smoked or smoke someone.  We have not had a close 3 setter on court 1.  So when we went from 0-4 to 4-4 in the third I was pumped that we came back and I automatically thought that it was sweet that we could have a close one and a chance to pull out a close 3 setter.  We were pumped.  At 0-3 in the 3rd I was clearly not happy with what had just happened in the last 3 games, we did nothing, we put up no resistance at all.  We were down 0-4 and 0-30 to the big server and then just rolled right over them.  Marty is tough as sheeeeeeet!  He saved a match point on the first one on an amazing point.

Yeah, you will find a couple of great benefits from pulling out a tough one like that!  You will gain confidence to repeat such feats in future similar situations!  
Its like Fed, you have to be able to be more consistent or better than your opponents in those pressure situations like set points or tough 3rd sets.  If you can be so, then the pressure shows itself in some errors on your opponents side rather than yours!    This was a large part of our (Freebird and I) success on our great run last Summer!

That's a huge win, regardless of opponent - to come back from 4-0 down in the 3rd shows some serious mental toughness.  Buckeye was saying in another thread how much you've improved over the last couple years (I agree), and if I had to pick one category that's improved the most, it's mental toughness.  Good stuff!
