Lay off the core work until you are pain free.
Any tears in that region can seriously mess you up. :(

I miss the long long ago times too!

Hit with wifey 3 days this week.  Each day I did more and more moving.  Yesterday the left calf was fine and the right calf (the good one) was achy.  We will see, I think I am close.  Hitting with wifey tomorrow and possibly a young 3.5 dude which will allow me to test the calf some more.  I hope to play some big boy tennis Wed but we will see how tomorrow treats me first.  Not opposed another week off to get things right.  :)
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Played today with DaveB.  The left calf feels phenomenal, no issues.  The right calf now feels achy which is a reverse.  Iced when we were done and all feels good for now.  I will rest up and keep to the treadmill until Wed match and see how it goes.  I moved pretty aggressively today and we played for 2 hours.  It was fun.

Played last night, maybe a week too soon, but that's my style.  Thinking I need another 7-14 days.  I will start with 7 as the goal and see how I feel on day 6.

OSU and MC played together, which was a pretty dumb move on their part.  Not dumb because we would destroy them  but because I had not touched a racquet in 6 weeks and my partner had not touched a racquet in 8 weeks.  I assume they were just looking for the easy win.  We lost 5-7, 2-6.  They took it easy on us in the first set.

My returns were decent, I took some big forehand swings as opposed to my typical chip and charge.  I need to get my topspin forehand back in working order so it is time to get it off of the shelf and take a few more big cuts.  A good chunk of them went in, and then they go in they usually go untouched which is a good feeling.  :)

My serves were rough.  I hat 6 or 7 double faults, but that is to be expected.  My partner and I hit a combined total of 10 errors in my first service game.  3 dfs for me, a missed overhead and some volleys.  Partner missed two easy volleys.  We cleaned it up from there, but still rough.

All in all though, I think hitting with wifey helps me a lot.  Although the snow on the courts this morning will keep me from doing that for a few days, but my calves will appreciate that.  :)

Phew, sounds like mostly good news Scooter!

It's amazing how helpful it can be to hit with players a few levels below you in skill.  Another aspect of the game to enjoy and help you improve.

Slow and easy on the calves, just think how pissed ule be if you screw one up for real by coming back too soon and can't play all summer.

Yeah, I think I made my comeback too quickly (what's new, right?).  Doctor told me 3-6 weeks, I give it 2 1/2 and try to play.  But that was of course after resting it for 3 weeks.  I needed to be doing the same exercises all along.  I am back to no tennis and doing the exercises.  I bet it will be a few more weeks.  Not too worried about it.  I need to keep working out.  :)

I can relate to that.
Not playing is agonizing.
After I stopped playing several years ago it took my body a couple months to recover.  One day, out of the blue, it dawned on me-  I was pain-free for the first time in over a decade.  No shoulder or knee pain, no random mucscle aches, nothing!  I felt like a recovering addict who finally feels clean after the evil substance has left his body.

Develop a warmup routine for those muscles. Heat!
Incorporate stretching.
Do the exercises.
Let pain be your guide, stop immediately if you feel pain.
Ice, ice, ice if only for 10 minutes.

I like the above theory.  Sadly I will need to incorporate it  after today.  USTA team has a HUGE match today against the team we are tied with for first place and we did not have enough players.  Sadly this is why I feel my calf still hurts.  I tried taking a few weeks off at the end of last summer to let it heal and they called and "begged" for me to play a match, hence here I am today with 2 bad calves and still not saying "no" even though I told them ahead of time I was no good.  Hopefully I do not do any big time damage.

I could have told you that.  For today, and today only, I am going with OSU's assumption that my injuries are just all mental.

Not to worry, he'll end up on the DL with you sooner or later.  We all end up there eventually. :(

Unfortunately he is kind of there with me now.  He is not sure what is going on but it is keeping him from moving hard core.  Hopefully it just goes away while he takes the weekend off since he is out of town.

Playing the big match payed off, for now.  My partner and I won 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-6.  The calf did OK, the right one is still achy, the left one (the original bad one) felt OK.  I am sure they will both be a little sore tomorrow.

The team won 3-2 so we are now officially in first place, BOOM!

I will skip tennis Wed.  There is no USTA league next week, we have a bye.  So I will chill until next Wed which is a week and a half off.  See how I feel then.

Still on the rest.  I bailed out of Wed tennis 2 days ago and I already bailed out of Wed tennis next week.  On Wed next week I will see a massage therapist that a work buddy who is an athlete recommended.  He said he went to her when he had bad calves like me.  He said she beat the holy hell out of him for an hour.  His ankles were swollen when she was done.  But 2-3 days later he was running lightly and a few days later he was back to normal.  By the time I see her I will not have been on the court for a week and a half.  Maybe try tennis a week after I see her which will be 2 1/2 weeks off.

Still doing the heat, treadmill, ice routine.  Fun stuff.   :\

Near as I can tell, that type of massage is designed to break down muscle adhesions and allow them to return to normal.  Me bros-in-law had one done while Down Under by a specialist with the aussie footballers.  He said it was nothing short of torture.  'Twill be interesting to hear how your appointment goes and if it helps.  :fingers & calves crossed:

Dare I say it? Spring is in the air, at least for now.
You have to get out on the court, Scott, even if it is just to hit with your better half.  :)
