lol, I forgot about that game serving for the first set!  Always easier to forget about when you end up winning the set.

I played really well today, I had no complaints, my errors were at a minimum and I will hitting volleys like lasers, felts good today.

And if you think that is your "regular" you are smoking crack.  You are about 10 times better than you showed today.

Ya know.....anymore that is pretty much my regular and the really sad part is that I have accepted it.  Hell, I aint young anymore, my foot and knee make me unable to move very well, I can't hit a hard serve anymore.  If I didn't love the game so much I would quit but I keep kidding myself that I am going to get healthy again some day and then the 1985 me will suddenly re-appear.   Playing singles the other night was when it was REALLY noticeable.  I can't cover the court AT ALL any more and my serve just sits up. Oh well.  I will keep at it and just enjoy being on the court.  You are playing fantastic!

Crap.  I hope that is just bruised and nothing is cracked!!!

Tired.  I will start with that tonight.

Played dubs with OSU against VIC and RG.  Weird match.  I served well, returned great, hit nice groundies but my volleys were off and on for sure.  Felt like we were out playing them.  We were up a break and then I missed two easy put aways in my service game and then they shanked a winner and we got broke.  Then we broke again only to get broke back after I missed some volleys on OSU's service game.  4 games later they break OSU for the set after I missed some more volleys.  Weird volley night for sure!  We lsoe the first set 5-7.

Second set started rough but we pulled it together.  We reeled off a few games in a row.  OSU served for the set at 5-2 and got broke.  I served it out at 5-4.  We went to a 3rd set super tb where they won the first 3 points and then we won the next 6.  We won it 10-5 or so. 

This is where I should have gone home, but nooooooooooooooo, not me!

I ask a 16 year old kid (maybe younger?) to play.  We played dubs with him recently and he is very tough.  Playing some national tourneys, etc.  In a  year from now hitting with me will be a waste of him time.

We just played a set but that was enough to make everything on my body hurt.  And when I got home I realize I tore off a HUGE blister on my little toe.  Shoot, it looks like my entire toe is coming off. 

I don't play singles any more and it shows.  I missed volley after volley tonight.  But he returned well and it wasn't like I was missing easy volleys.  He jumped out to a 2-0 lead and I broke back.  Then he broke and then I broke.  We both held for a while after that.  Seemed like any time I took the attacking position I was missing.  I like to slice and come in a lot in singles and I was missing most of my slice approach shots and if I got that in I missed the volley.  By the later half of the set I was volleying better.  I barely held on at 4-4 and he served to stay in the set.  He got down 0-30, I could taste victory.  Then the only thing I could taste for the next 3 games was his foot up my a$$.  Lost it 5-7.  I was dog tired trying to hang on.  His last service game was a joke.  I missed 3 returns all night and his last service game I missed most of them and then missed all my groundies. 

I hope I don't hurt this bad tomorrow.

Methinks you'll be hurting even worse today.

Sounds like an off night for the volleys and perhaps the overall attacking play.  What worked for me on occasion was to let go mentally.  It always seems the harder I try the worse things get.  Whenever I relax and 'let it flow' what little natural talent I have seems to rise to the surface.

The blister looks nasty but it does not feel too bad.  Surprised how big of a callus/blister came ripping off. 

I guess it was a night off for the volleys.  Not a huge surprise for me in singles though.  I get in one match a year or so and it always feels weird.  I would need a few matches to get back into the swing of things on the singles court.  By the time I get comfortable with singles this kids gonna be too good for me to play anyways.

Perhaps poor footwork in the forecourt.

OSU is doing well, slammed at work.

I did not know the blister was there until I took the shoe off, I was fortunate for that.  I know it is there now though!  OW!!!

Another Sunday, another USTA match player.  MC and I played two dudes that were pretty solid.  One guy i had never played before and he had some 5.0 elements to his game for sure!  His return of serve was sweetness!!!  Overall a very solid game.  Gave away a few too many volleys but he made up for it in other areas.

We won the first set 6-4 breaking right at the end.  It was a tightly contested set.  The next set we had match point on one of their serves while they were serving at 4-5.  They held on and then won the tb 7-1 (ouch!).  We played a super tb for the 3rd set (USTA rules) and won it 10-5.

OSU and I won our USTA match last Sunday in straights, but it was close.  I think it was 4 & 6.  Fun match.

How unfortunate that you're the only person making entries in this part of the forum.   The bulk of the traffic at T4U is now just jibberjabber amongst the fangirls.  The exception being the vid section which seems to chug right along nicely.

No issues with the blister, all is healed there. 

Meant to mention...  I need to loose weight so my services games are not so hard on me.  All other games are no issues but I am typically huffing and puffing after my service games.  No doubt the extra weight is not helping!

A few extra pounds can certainly take it's toll on your game, though most folks don't think it affects your serve.  To the contrary, it is the one shot you hit over and over at near maximum effort.  And for those of us who are still brave enough to move forward after the serve (instead of standing around waiting for the return ) the additional sprint steps forward add to the physical demands.

Lay off Momma's pumpkin pies and that should save you 5-10lbs a week!

I sprint to the net like a bat out of hell and most of my movements are pretty aggressive so the extra weight certainly does not help.  And of course trying to serve while out of breath sucks...

Still playing pretty well.  Everything is feeling pretty good.  I seem to be volleying very well.  When I am coming to the net I seem to be hitting my volleys very hard and they are all landing so no real complaints there!

I seem to have taken some speed off of my serve and just kick it into the corners.  People are missing a fair share of those serves so I have been sticking with it.  I still mix in some fast ones too though.  My favorite move, on the ad side, is to kick a few wide and then later arch my back big time like I am going to serve a big kicker out wide and then smack it up the "T".  I get a ton of aces with that move.  My kicker out wide is landing so shallow which is giving it nasty angle, so the opponents are leaning that way to hit it, and then when I hit the serve up the "T" it is effective.  It does not even have to be that hard of a serve sometimes and it will still register the ace.  Love that move.

Started working out again, just a few days in so far.  I always avoid working out because I hate being sore when I play tennis.  But what I have come to realize is that I do not lift heavy anymore and that does not really make me sore anymore.  So I am going to give it another whirl.  I like working out as long as it does not make any of those nagging injuries worse.
