I have been playing great tennis in the USTA leagues this season. I am more focused than I have ever been. I am also handling their serves a lot better which is helping a ton. I have no complaints right now.

I played some doubles tonight. It was just 4.0 doubles, I did what I had to do to just get by. But what I was anxious to get out and try today was the new string. I hit with the Cyber Flash byTopspin Germany, or so I think that is what this stuff is called.

It was very hard to string with, it was just so stiff. That alone made me nervous, so I strung it 2 pounds less than I am use to.

The strings felt good. I will continue using them and see how long them last before I decide if I will use them or not. They had good feel and gave me good pop when I needed it. I do not think stringing 2 pounds lighter was necessary, and that suprised me. I am using 16g now, I will try 17g next if I continue to use it.

Not too shabby...

Hell Yes! I just finished the last match of the season for the 4.5 Winter league, I finished with yet another win. 8-3 for the season in a league I have never even been 500%.

I started out rough tonight, missed the first 8-10 shots I touched. We were down 2-3 and they were serving. It was break point. They serve to my forehand, I smoke a ball out wide that hits the line. The guy serving was rushing in, it bounced behind him and he calls it out. I was not happy. We should of been back on serve. We lose that set by a break.

We won the next 2 sets by a break.

What was sweet was one of the guys we were playing was a guy i have lost to twice. Once in the final of a tennis tournament in which Jeffro and I had 4 match points and won none of them, the other last season in the 4.5 leagues in which I had 2 match points and won neither of them. So it was nice to get over that hump...

I get to fire it up tonight in some doubles. It was Jeffro, me, another 4.5 and a guy who is probably 4.0 and who has not been playing a lot these days which I was not too excited about to be honest with you. But I have just been told that the 4.0 has been substituted for a 5.0 player which is friggin awesome! Jamesdster will be filling in. My predicitons for tonight if I play against the Big Jamesdster... Easy win!

Just got an email from Jeffro confirming I'm in. Looking forward to it. To all of you who want to attend, my advice is to get there early as tickets are going fast.

For those who can't make it, I'm sure it will be shown (tape delay) on the tennis channel tomorrow...or is that Cartoon Channel??

Well, Jamesdster and I paired up against Jeffro and another dude last night. We laid ultimate smack down. Jeffro wasn't playing well and Jamesdster and I weren't missing much. We won 3 straight sets. I was returning serve very well which is always a plus for me since I have always felt that was my weakest part of my doubles game. In the last 12 months I am getting back a higher percentage of serves and it is making a huge difference

. That was fun last night. I think Jeffro was hurting more than he let on, because he IS afterall Jeffro. We both served well, so you knew we weren't going to be broken much, but what won it for us was, as you said, our returns were quite good.

You my man are not EVEN the same player I first met, what was it, 4 or 5 years ago. Ladies and gentlemen, our fearless leader, Scott, has demonstrated for the world to see, what hard work can accomplish. In 4 years, the game has improved about as much as anyone's game can improve. Actually, that can be said for most of your team. Jeffro has improved a lot, as has Randy, Dale, Vaughn, ...I really think when you're team moved from 4.0 to 4.5, that was the best thing to happen to you boys. You may not win every match now, but as far as helping your games...case closed!

4.5 USTA Summer season started today. My regular partner and I stayed together, no need to break us up if we are winning. It was our first match outside. It was a rough start. I was broken my first 2 service games, we got 1 break and found ourselves down 2-5 in the first set with us serving. We hold for 5-3. They get set ppoint on their serve and I return the serve with a lob and we end up winning the point. We took it to a tie-breaker and won 7-5. We then had a tough first few games in the second set and then ran away with the match, 7-6 (5), 6-1. So we are 1-0 to start the season. I am pumped!

2 of our guys were playing 2nd doubles. They were playing one of the toughest teams in the 4.5. One guy is 5.0 (not sure why he is still ranked 4.5) and the other guy is as solid of a 4.5 as you can get. We win the first set and they are in a second set tie-breaker. They were up 5-3, hit a volley out but neither opponent could see where it landed. One of them was looking into the setting sun and the other guy was getting out of the way of the volley near the net. That would of given us 3 match points. Our guys go back to serve and one of our guys spoke up, he said the volley was out and they couldn;t take the point. 5-4. ouch. We lost the tie-breaker and I had to roll. I hope we win it in the third. But as for those two dudes on our team, that was amazing of them to give them the point. They did the right thing, I am proud of them, regardless of the match. That was a bold move, but the right one.

I played in a tourney today (doubles as usual). I beat some guy who owns the tennis club that I basically lived at in high school. I have always looked up to the guy, he is really cool. I have not played him in 11 years, last time we played he beat me in the finals of a doubles tournament, all I played back then was singles. But this guy has always been tough.

His partner was his son, he was probably 16 or 17, he was the weaker link. My partner was a 4.0 player but still stronger than my opponent's son. We won 6-2, 6-4. I played well, returned painfully well. The Dad has a tough serve but I was handling it nicely.

We moved on to the next round and had to play (2) 4.5 players who got the better of us by a break each set (maybe 2 breaks in the first?). They are nice guys so it was fun. My partner and I played tired. I figured they would win but I was hoping to keep it a little closer.

Fun to get back into the tournaments. I hope to be playing more soon.

Jeffro had (4) matches today in the tourney. That is what he gets for signing up for (3) division.

I have got to practice for 2 days this week, both went pretty well. Work had me frozen off of the court for 8 days which is a long time for me. We have league matches on Saturday which I am pumped about.

We did a full doubles drill Tuesday night. We had five guys and it takes one to feed the balls into the court so it was perfect. It is competitive too and the objective is to score points so it keeps my interest. I like even the drills to be competitive, otherwise I lose focus.

I have a mixed doubles tournament tomorrow. My partner is in her 40's. Back in the day she walked onto OSU's tennis team and ended up playing #1. I have seen few females hit the ball as hard and flat as she can. She really lays into each shot. But that is her gorundies, her net game is not her strength. I have a feeling she will stay back a ton, but that is more than fine with me. He groundies are like laser beams. When I hit with her it is tough to volley because she hits so dang hard it is tough to control. I am pumped to get this tourney started. I am a little bummer about the turnout for the mixed. Only 4 teams so we are already in the semi's and we have not yet hit a ball. If we win our match tomorrow we play Sunday most likely against one of the guys who is in my 4.5 league and a lady who I do not know but I have heard she is tough, so that is sweet! It should be a good match. If my partner plays solid doubles she will be hard to do anything against.
