I haven't counted errors in a long time, but I am glad you still try to bring it up. But knowing that we both got broke at love and they held at love, it wasn't tough to do the math. I realize that math might not come that easy to you, so I will help you. 3 times 4 is 12. And then knowing that they won the previous game before they tore us a new one for 3 straight games, you can add at least 1 point to 12. If you need an Advil for your headache, I understand...
OSU and I fired it up proper last night. We played a well fought first set staying on serve to 5-5 in the first set. We did not have any break point to that point in the match, they served well and we just weren't grooving yet. I was on the deuce side and I almost never play the deuce side, so returning serve over there is always a challange for me at first. OSU had his normal side, so I had mad confidence in his returning ability. Surprisingly in the first set OSU struggled to get the return past Jamesdster and he made us pay. But in the first set at 5-5 they tore in at least 3 return winners and I forget what happened on the other point but they still won it. OSU was serving in that game. I never get broken at love (see first game, second set).
I tried to keep the last game simple in the first set to get the break, but we still couldn't even get a point. By this point OSU was not a happy camper. He looked like a big limp noodle.
We start the second set and I was still pumped. Heck, the first set was close so i thought we could give them another good fight for the second set. They break me at love to start the second set, that sucked. I am not really sure what happened in that game, but it only made OSU even worse off. I knew he could snap back at any time so I tried to stay positive with him. They hold for 2-0 and then they break OSU again for 3-0. They get up 3-0 and 30-0 on their service game. Who the hell knows what happened. But OSU came back alive and we started getting our returns back and putting on some more pressure.
We get one break back and then I get a hold. Just down a break now. Jamesdster was missing a lot of first serves and that helped a ton. Although I was returning his 1" long first serves better than I was returning his seconds...
We somehow get the break on Jamesdster's serve and get to 3-3. We were pretty much down and out and scratched and clawed to get to this point. We all hold to the tie-breaker. I started the tie-breaker with an ace and Jamesdster and his partner both donated a double fault in the tb and we sealed the deal 7-4.
We started out the second set strong with a break of Jamesdster's serve. We started returning everything at this point in time. I didn't keep track, but OSU said I missed 2 returns in the third set and OSU missed 3. Not bad stats at all. Especially since (and I have failed to mention this until now, Jamesdster's partner was serving well all night). I made a huge adjustment by standing inside the baseline to start returning serves, makes it a lot easer to get to the net after the return too.
We pretty much went on a tear in the 3rd set. They were down 1-5 and 0-40, we had 4 match points in that game but they still held. I started the last game serving down 0-30, but we managed to pull it out 6-2 for the win.
Jamesdster is hell to play but somehow we got out fo the match alive and with the "W".
OSU and I both volleyed well. I hit some smooth volley lobs over Jamesdster's head. I covered some tough lobs off of the baseline too that I had to run down from being at the net. I was able to get around them and load up the topspin and throw them back for winners. Mainly because they let them go by at the net thinking they would go out. Come to think about it, I won a handful of points by just scrambling some shots down.
Fun stuff. My first official win against Jamesdster while we all had good partners... It has been 5 years coming. Now if only I could beat him at singles...
