How crazy it was.  I broke him 3 times and held once.  My world turned upside down.

So his serve isn't that great or were you a returning beast?

I was actually returning quite well, which is very un-jamesdster like.  His serve is very good.  He has a nice slice serve that he places well, but the worst part about him is that he is a stinkin lefty!

WOW!   Pot, meet kettle!   :rofl_2:

Played Jason G last night, a guy Scott has mentioned a couple of times.  He just blasts everything, so he hits a lot of winners and even more errors.  I beat him 6-1 & 6-1 by just getting the ball back as much as possible.  You get no rhythm in these types of matches and it was quite boring since you don't get to play  :ZZZZZ).

The final stats were probably something lke this:

winners:
Jason - 16
JD - 3

unforced errors:
Jason - 165   :\
JD - 10

Those are amusing stats.  I looked for you to lay waste to him but I didn't really expect you to burn alot of energy either.   I saw one point where JG actually kept the ball in play for like 5 or 6 shots and that was a good one.

Wed. nite

JD Ė DC vs Scott Ė Jeffro

This marked the return of Jeffro from his rolled ankle.  I thought he played pretty well.  I thought Scott played very well.  I thought my partner played fairly well.  I thought, no, strike that, I KNOW I stunk!  Ah maybe I am being a little hard on myself.  I KNOW that my volley stunk.  I need a nice volley practice session before the tourney this weekend.  Anywho, the score was 6-4 them, 6-4 us, 5-4 on serve them, when our time ran out.  Not positive on the first 2 setís scores, but I think that was the score.

Oh, I forgot to mention 1 detail.  I was serving to Jeffro on the ad-court, break point down, so I am thinking, no biggy, Iíll just drop a bomb down the T and weíll be back to deuce, no sweat.  So, I wind up and crank it down the middle, AS HARD AS I CAN, and I mean to tell you I absolutely nailed it dead on the screws.  I come in to volley just in case he is able to hit a weak sitter back to me cuz surely thatís the best heís gonna be able to do.  So, in I come and the next thing I know, some friggin MISSILE went sizzling past me into the double alley, 4 feet from my racket.  ABSOLUTLELY UNBELIEVABLE!  Jeffro hits more highlight reel shots than anyone.  I mean, I hit that serve at maybe 122 and it went past me at 152!  I bow to the almighty one!   ://

We ended on 4-4 on serve with you getting ready to unload.  We were down 2-4 when DC served, was up 40-0 and we won the next 5 points.  We then switched sides and I held for 4-4.  That was all she wrote.

And yeah, your volleys betrayed you last night.  I think you were just getting rid of the bad ones before the tourney.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Today, in my first tourney of the year, OSU and I played 2 high school players in the qtrs.  We won 0 & 0.  They were pretty much beginners so I hope they didn't get too discouraged as we have all been there (our tennis infancy). We lost our first point in game 5.  Tomorrow in the semis will be a different story as we play a very good team.  We'll have to be at our best to beat them.

Maybe we won't have to play our best................but not far from it..............unless they play their best...............oh, you get the picture.  We are pretty close to dead even.  It should be fun.  I got to get up out of here.

JD - OSU def Bernie - Mark L 6-4 4-6 6-0

Great match!  OSU and I both played very well, except for a couple of return games.  We made them play as we returned pretty well, giving them very few freebies.  Bernie was pretty tired heading into the 3rd set as this was his 3rd match of the day and it was pretty hot out.

On to the finals tomorrow against the defending champs, Mark M - Jason R.

Hope so.  If we play like we did today we will be in good shape.  Maybe we'll win, maybe we'll lose, but we'll be right there with a chance at the end.

Someone joked that today's match was in the 6'3" and over division  :rofl_2:  At one point, 1 of my "pals" yells from the cheap seats to our opponents "if you want to win, hit it to the short guy  :ranting:."  At 6'4" I haven't been the "short guy" on a doubles team very often.  But in today's match it was:

Mark L - 6'4"
Bernie - 6'3"
OSU - 6'5"
Me - 6'4"

Wow, good thing I wasn't out there.  Everyone would have thought I was the ball boy and they would be looking around wondering where your 4th is.

Good luck today!  You are probably already there getting your pre-warmup on!

Well, the big ugly and I pulled it out 6-3 6-3.  We played pretty darned well in taking out the defending champs.  Our returns won us the tournament as we made them play almost every serve they got in.  My partner was outstanding the entire tournament!   ://
