Scott, OSUBuckeye, and yours truly helped our club win our 4.5 match last night to CLINCH the league championship.   :)>>>> :applause: :applause:

We now qualify for the district championships in Dayton around the first of August.  Just imagine how well we could do if we actually had working body parts. ;-()

Scott and I met at a local hs court and beat the ball around for almost 2 hours.  For so early in the outdoor season and for as little as we both have played I thought we both stroked it well.   :thumbs-up: :thumbs-up:

I was hitting forehands well, the backhand slice was a little off.  That is my bread and butter, I need to clean that up!

We will see.  You and I need to enter a tourney this summer too.  It's early so we have tons of time, but keep it in your mind.

How does the shoulder feel today after hitting some serves?

In normal every day activities....fine.  Only hurts when I serve or hit overheads.  But better.  ://

I am thinking about reviving my journal, if for no other reason than to have a record of what I am doing tennis-wise.  Maybe I'll double up and start including my officiating in here.  To make a long story short, I hurt my shoulder around Jan. 2011, rotator cuff I am guessing.  I just spin serves in now but still hang at 4.5.  Surprisingly, I still hold most of the time.  Scott says it is because of my lefty spin.  Whatever it is I'll take it.  I have not gone to the doc yet to have it diagnosed but hope to soon, as soon as some higher priority stuff gets checked out.  Yes, I am old.

Scott and I practiced for 75 min tonight in a sauna.  The sun was down but the humidity was unreal.  We hit lots from the baseline and a good bit of volleys and just dropped and hit and played some points out.  We were drenched at the end.  This will help me for a doubles tourney I am in this weekend.  My partner and I are seeded #2 in open dubs.  The #1 seeds are solid and will be tough to beat but we shall see.

Well let's get something clear.  I do not say you can hold with a power puff serve at 4.5 because of the lefty spin.  I have said though that the spin will help.  You can hold and hang with the 4.5 guys because your ground strokes are very solid, your freaking forehand is 5.0+ and your volleys and solid too.  Who cares if you have to just spin in a serve.  Keep it deep, use a little of that lefty spin and then take care of business with the rest of your nasty game!  BOOM!

Thanks for the hitting session.  I needed to lose 10 pounds of sweat and get some exercise!  Although we were not crushing the ball, that was some of the more consistent hitting I have done in a while, at least the first 3/4.  :)
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Playing in a doubles tourney.  Naveen and I are the #2 seeds.  There is a draw of 8 and we got a bye into the semis and played a good 4.5 player and a nationally ranked 12yr old today.  We were down 5-3 in the 1st set, reeled off 6 straight games to get to 7-5 2-0 then lost it 6-4.  3rd set started bad.  We were down 2-0 and 4-3 with the bad guys serving.  We broke to 4-4, I held a marathon game to 5-4, then broke the youngster to win it 6-4 in 2 hrs 45 min.  I was a little tired having taught in clinics all morning so I was a little off my game.  Naveen returned GREAT.  Tomorrow we play the 1 seeds and we will have to play better to have a chance.

Be real.  A nationally ranked 12 vs a broken down 53 yr old.  I'd say I was a huge underdog.  The dude is unbelievable.  He needs a better 2nd serve but THAT IS IT!
