Bob offered me a signing bonus and free use of the team Porsch.  Can you match that?   ;;)

Dude, you're a lefty, and that means your family.  But if you keep this talk up, you can expect to find the head of that horse in your avatar, in your bed....

Nice!    :lmao:

Hey!  My horse has been mutilated enough already!  So, are you going to "make me an offer I can't refuse"?

Is this a damn riddle or something?   I suck at those!

I guess you are not a fan of the Godfather trilogy?

Not really but I know the whole horse head and little friend joke stuff!   Is your qoute "make me an offer I can't refuse" from the movie also?

Yes.  But Bird's was a famous line from Scarface, another classic Pacino flick (the "say hello to my little friend quote).
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

Alright, so I was seriously getting the mob movies mixed up!   :;:-|

Sorry to be a ball buster here, but Pacino also starred as el Brute in Shakespearean drama. Just thought you'd like to know.

Ball buster?  More like topic derailer.  You know, we were having a serious on topic conversation in DSter's tennis journal about, uh, mob movies, when you break in with this piece of unrelated trivia.  How could you???

Good luck on the court is nice to have, but it's usually extraneous when playing against Baker.

Holy crap, Buckeye!!!! You call yourself a man, yet you aren't familiar with the Godfather flicks!!!???!!! Until you rent them and watch them (or at LEAST the first one), you will have to be officially considered a girly man! I am soooo disappointed in you. I hope you are hanging your head in shame.

Dster--since this IS your tennis journal, glad to hear you've been getting more play in. How's the body holding up?

The knee (which will never get better) is the only impediment at the moment, but I can hop around the court ok.  If I can stay THIS way I can at least compete.  Since it's been about 5 weeks or so since my last "episode" on court, I may be ok for another 7 or so.

cgw, you'll have to forgive Buckeye for his girly behavior.  He doesn't watch much other than "The Little Mermaid" types of movies.

Please accept my apology. I tend to get really b**chy (even without any hormonal intervention) at males who, through the anonymity of the web, lead people to believe they are MANLY when they haven't even seen a single one of the Godfather movies! Indeed, it is I who am ashamed of YOU. In fact, I think I may be a little emotionally and psychologically damaged by your admission; perhaps I simply expect too much of you (followed by a long, drawn-out sigh). Good God, young man, were you raised by wolves!!??!!

Look at The Godfather (btw, the first was definitely the best) as not a mob movie, but a fascinating study of the family dynamic. Perhaps that perspective would interest you more?

I guess we don't need to quote any lines from Goodfellows if he hasn't even made it past the Godfather.

Subbed in the singles league last night (the hourly league version) against Jason M, the best player in the league.   Jason started out serving and we played at least 10 deuces and he held after 18 minutes   :ranting:  We played 6 games in a little more than 40 minutes and it was 3-3 and I lost the tb.  This match would've gone over 3 hours if we played 3 sets, plus it was indoors.  I don't even want to think about how long it would've taken on a slow court.  Obviously most of the games were back and forth with both of us having lots of chances to grab a lead but neither of us capitalized on several break chances.  I was not able to get in to the net on his service games much and he abused me from the baseline.  When I served I got lots of free points, especially on the 2nd serve kicker which I think he framed at least 5 times.  We both played “ok” but we both could’ve played better.

After that many deuces in the first game, I would've gone mad if I didn't win the game!!!

Yeah, I hear you.  You HAVE to win the big points to beat good players and I am just not real sharp at the moment but it's coming.

I better post something about last night before Buckeye calls me out.  I played doubles on the court next to Scottie.  It was some pretty bad tennis overall.  I played very average with the return still stinking.  I served ok and the forehand was ok but the backhand wasn't doing so well either.  Upon further review, I guess this is me (serve and forehand). Volleys and overheads were fine.  The play was very sloooow, too much time on changeovers and lots of deliberate play and taking forever to serve, etc..so I kinda went into a funk and finished runnerup to the Rocker for the night.  I even made a sarcastic coment one time during the changeover about making the next one "teatime."  So I made no friends again last night.  If Scott won his court he will be moving up to my court and that means next week IT'S ON!

Who were the other 3 players?    I forget if the rocker is PC or CR?
