Melissa's performance last night was simply superb, she could not have sung it better IMO. Also, Jennifer Hudson's mic seemed like it had something wrong with it, I couldn't barely hear here some of the time. And, WOW Anika Noni Rose has quite a fantastic voice on her, she was hitting high notes like it was nobodies business. I feel like she should've gotten the part of Deena or something, she certainly IMO had a better voice than Beyonce, who did suprise me and do quite well with her songs.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

I thought that the Dreamgirls performance was superb... especially the way they blended them all together... ANd were you really surprised by Beyonce's performance? You know, i read an article in Source magazine about the movie and the music producer actually told Beyonce to tone down her voice for the movie b/c Deena is supposed to have a soft/neutral voice until the end of the movie.... And I agree...Anika has a really nice voice. Can't see her as Deena though.

I thought Dreamgirls got robbed!

1.  Eddie Murphy should have won for best supporting actor
2.  3 songs and none of them won!  3 out of the 5 nominated songs and to me the most boring song of all 5 won!  I'm sorry - I just couldn't get into that song that won.  It was putting me to sleep!

But I'm glad my girl Jennifer won.  Good for her.  When Eddie lost I thought "oh no!  If Eddie didn't win, Jennifer probably won't either"!  But I'm glad she did. She proved that you don't have to "win" American Idol to make it.

Surfing IMDB.com, today, I find that a classic SciFi movie is due for a remake, slated to hit the screens in 2008.  I fear the worst.

It was in the top 250 of all movies in the imdb.com database [#168, in fact]...so, my recommendation is to go to the rental place, and check out the version of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951).

Because, the 2008 version doesn't even have a director, cast, or...much of anything other than a rumor fleshed out to it yet....link...

Good call Richard!  Also, one of my personal favorites is "Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price.
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

A pretty good year for the Academy. Stepping away from favouring non-american movies, this has been one of the most international selections. Glad to see 'Das Leben der Anderen' win an Oscar, it was the best film this year IMO, but 'The Departed' is also one of the better movies.

Then I'm afraid I have some bad news for you:  that's being slated for a remake (not that there haven't been enough retreads on that script, already,) due out December 14 of this year.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0149027 <--1967 Spanish (15 minute) remake.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0067525 <--1971 Charlton Heston remake, the Omega Man
http://imdb.com/title/tt0480249 <--2007 Will Smith version.  Robert Neville <same name as in the 1971 vers.> "is the last man alive. He busies himself with preparing for a nightly attack from the rest of the world - all of which have transformed into blood-thirsty vampires."

Did anyone bother to check out 300 this weekend? I went to see it Thursday night at the midnight showing and went again tonight. Anyhow, let me tell you all that it is a MUST see. The visual effects were AWESOME and I love the supernatural/mythological twist they put on the movie to distinguish it from other historical type movies like Troy/Alexander.

You won't be disappointe.d

I saw it yesterday, I thought it was pretty good.  Not as good as I had hoped, but that is partly my fault for getting so pumped to see it.  I recommend it!

I saw Children of Men. It was really good. Kind of an anticlimatic ending, I thought but the thought of that actually happening is terrifying and a brilliant topic of discussion

Just saw my 15th 2006 release Saturday. "The Queen" (Best Actress   :winner:   ). Compelling look at the dichotomy between the monarchy and "the people." Portrail of Tony Blair (the real tragic figure) supersedes the Queen. #4 on Babblelot's Top 15 just below "The Last King of Scotland."
