Thoughts on the match...

Looked like Hewitt was going to win the 3rd set until Safin took the time out injury.  Didn't seem like Hewitt was playing 100% after the 1st set either.  Possibly nerves, but he only went for out and out winners when he was totally out of the point.

Safin kept getting stronger even though he never really played at 100%.  His serve got better but his groundies were average for him.

All in all, it was a somewhat entertaining match but not the final I was hoping for.

Possible outcome with Safin and Federer becoming the Agassi vs Sampras for the next couple of years.

A lot of people are making out that a Federer-Roddick rivalry is happening or is going to happen but imo, Roddick isn't good enough to challenge Federer or make a rivalry interesting. Out of the current top 4, I'd certainly say Roddick is the least gifted as far as natural tennis ability goes. Safin, on the other hand, has shown he can beat Federer at the top of his game so a rivalry between those two is both possible and potentially enthralling.

Not even Roddick believe there was a rivalry.  When asked about the rivalry, Roddick stated "it can't be a rivalry until he starts winning some of the matches".

Roddick just isn't smart out there.  I don't know if you can teach on court thinking,  to work it has to be automatic.  You don't have time to think "what did coach say?".  He made some really stupid plays during his match with Hewitt.

I, for one, am glad that Hewitt dumped the ugly-looking Kim Clijsters and picked up a hot blonde. Good for him. Who needs brains when you've got beauty?

I always thought Hewitt & Clijsters suited each other because they both look like theyve been whacked with the ugly stick. Rebecca Cartwright, though, is WAY too good for Hewitt.

His new fiancee is okay.  But she's only 19.  Man, she doesn't know what she wants in life yet.

The match today wasn't the final, it was an exihibtion. Safin already won when he defeated Federer.

That is pretty much the truth Timid.  All he had to fight out there was his nerves...
