I was very happy with my win last night against Chuck R.  He has much more successful singles experience than I do and is very frustrating to try and beat.  I got him 6-3, 5-5 (7-5), we played aTB at 5-5 in the 2cnd set due to running out of time.  I served quite well on my 1st serves as I got some aces out wide and many service winners with hard flat serves right at him.  I don't think he would be thrilled with how he played but I must have done some things right to beat him.  I held all service games until getting broke in my 2cnd service game in the 2cnd set.  I broke him on his 1st service game.  I felt I should have broken him more often but in the end I got him just enough.  I got my break back on him in the 2cnd set at 3-4.  I can't wait to see what chump I play next week?   :rofl_2:

EXCELLENT win my man!   :thumbs-up:  That is a typical match with Chuck; 6-3 5-5 after 2 hours.  Ridiculous. I am not positive, but I THINK we are scheduled to go at it next week.  After this result, ummmmmmmm, let's see, hmmmmmmm, I think I have a prior engagement; yeah, that's it.  I also will probably be sick next Monday; also, my dog will eat my homework and my knee hurts, yeah, that's the ticket  :rofl_2:
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

As long as you play with that girlie racket again, I should be fine!   ;-()     If you string up the Dinos I will be in trouble!   :rofl_2:

I need some help from Jster to remember this good laugh we had Saturday.  I was running back to retrieve a ball at the side of my court and Jster was lining up a down the line passing shot winner next to me.  All I could see was straight at Jster so after he hits the shot I ask him if it was in and he replies some smart, humble remark like "your damn right it was"!   :rofl_2:   I started laughing out loud back in the corner of my court.

I was shocked you had to ask?  I think you said: "Was that in?" and I replied "HAIL YES it was in".  I make that pass 16 out of 14 times!   :rofl_2:

I think I honestly thought it was going out cause it looked like it left your racket too high.  I didn't see it all that well though.

How many times did Chuck say "your call," or "that's either out or play 2" which absolutely kills me  :rofl_2:

None last night.  He made a call on a ball that I could not call out.  He hit down the line and I think it caught the outside of the line.  I made no call and looked over his way, he said he thought it caught some line.

What the heck is "that's either out or play 2"?    :rofl_2:  A do over?  That is a lame call.  If you have to say that, the ball is good.

Not to hijack your thread again....
This has been the worst season in recent memory for boy's tennis: my son's team has only gotten 2 matches in! To add insult to injury, yesterday's match was a "wind out". He played second singles in his first match and beat a kid in his program group at Wedgewood 6-0, 6-0!
Played first singles in his second match and won 2 and 2. Looks like they will play today (unless it's "too sunny") Figures the day I'm supposed to provide the snack wouldn't be cancelled!
In my own tennis, I've lost my USTA match (#2 dubs 4.0) 3 times in a row in 3rd set tb, either 10-7 or 10-8. Great matches and I've been playing pretty darn well (I've been working on my serve with the tips you gave me) so I don't know what to thinkl

Good stuff!   Keep working at it...........thats all you can do to keep improving.  Late match pressure situations are tough.  You need to be confident in those situations but the confidence comes from pulling through successfully in those situations.  Plus, there are other factors......your teammate and opponents play.  But, all you can control is your play and be positive with your teammate.  The better idea is to play extemely well through the match and ideally those 3rd set pressure situations won't even be necessary because you will beat them in 2 sets!   ;-()   Good luck and have fun!   What are we having for a snack BTW?

You are right jeffrx...you give your opponent the point if you aren't sure but he tries to get away with this.  And the sad part is that he's a good 4.5 player and has even tried doing this in USTA matches.

Played some Wednesday night with Joe M. against Scott and MC.  They got us in the end but it was close.

Dubs has been a bit funky for me lately.  I think it mostly has to do with expectations.  I am not playing as good as I expect to.  It is even more weird now that I feel like I am playing better singles than I expect to but dubs is worse.  In the end, I must just play hard and keep the ball in play as much as possible.

I have told you before, it is tricky to play both.  You get your mind wrapped up in one and the other can slip.  I have experienced it a lot, I wish I could play both all the time, but I simply do not have the time.  2 different mentalities and 2 different game plans.  I have always needed to focus on one to be at my best for that one.  Not that everyone is like me, but the timing of your doubles complaints comes at an interesting time.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

But, we should be good enough to game-plan for both and switch between the 2 successfully.

Dubs has also been very frustrating due to partners/opponents not all being the same level in many/most of the recent matches.  I hate the attacking the weak player thing in matches that are just for practice.  That affects things quite a bit.  I am scaring myself because I am starting to think sometimes that I would just rather be on court by myself and handle my own s**t.  I never used to think this way at all.

Looks rough!?  We are busy most of the day...........I'll have to let you know later.  This sucks BTW, we have barely put any outdoor tennis together recently.  We better get things going soon.  I guess once indoor leagues end it will be better.

We had bagels, bananas and Hershey chocolate bars, along with Tiger Gatorade, Gatorade and water. Of course I was put to shame by the LAX and softball mothers, who brought pizza, pulled pork sandwiches, etc.
But our guys played at 3:30 and those teams didn't play till 5. (rationalization?) They just can't have all that heavy grease when there's only a half hour between the end of school and when they were expected on court!
Anyway, we swept all 5 courts, with my son winning at second singles 6-3, 6-1 (not sure - I was mostly looking at Paris pictures with my Mom)
