Hi I'm Matt. I'm new here but I'll try to keep updating my journal regularly.

Heres some info for you all:
Name:Matt
Age:13
Weight: 7 stone
Stroke info: 2 handed backhand and semi western grip

I played today against my regular hitting partner. Who is quicker around the court than me but has limited shots. We played 2 sets and I won 6-2 6-4. I could do with working on my serve and getting a coach.

played against my hitting partner again kinda kicked his arse i could really do with someone new to play with. How do u all meet new people.

First off, welcome to the forums!!! I am glad you found us here!!!!!!!!!!

Finding new people can always be tricky but here are a few ideas. You will be slightly limited since you depend on parents for transportation.

Get into tournaments and meet people that way.

Find the local clubs and see if they have clinics or leagues for players your level.

Just hit the local popular outdoor courts with a bucket of balls and practice serve. If you see someone around your level ask them if they would like to hit sometime.

Thanks for the advice. Would doubles help much with my singles game much. I much prefer singles but I think playing doubles tournaments would help me meet alot more people.

I love to see people play both singles and doubles. I think it helps your overall game a ton!

thanks for the replies. I change my grip for pretty much every shot i hit, is this bad.

I do not mind the grip change from the backhand to the forehand. I think that is common and just fine. The one grip change I think is detrimental would be from the forehand volley to the backhand volley. Volleys need to be reflex shots a lot of the time and switching grips is not a good thing.

I use a western grip for the forehand and a continental grip for all other shots in tennis.

i play with a flat serve but im finding it to be a very low % shot. What serve should i learn next and any tips on how to do it will be helpful.

The topspin serve is a very high percentage serve. I would recommend starting to learn that serve next. Lots of clearance over the net, bounces up high and not easy to attack as the returner as long as you serve it deep in the court.

Im going to have to disagreee with scott here MATT, i would suggest learning the slice serve first as it is much easier to learn and then ease into the kicker, just my opinion.... *COUGH*

i started out with a topspin....think of your racquet as a brush and you are "brushing" the ball with your racquet, thus causing top (or rather side) spin on your ball. i've seen people do flat serves wrong and get a major shoulder injury.. eek!! topspin serves are way easier on your upper body, and it builds your confidence.

remember, practice makes permanent!

O.K played this morning for an hour just practising serves. I'm finding the slice serve alot easier than the topspin but the topspin serve is getting there. I met someone while practising we wer just rallying and he was hitting a lot of very flat shots whereas i was hitting with more topspin. For my height would it be better to hit flatter. As i have to hit quite high to get the ball deep.

I have a tourney tomorow and im really excited but I Know tomorow im going to be real nervous and will probly end up playing nowhere near as well as i can.

Just play one point at a time. Do not think about the score, the previous point or the next one.

I demoed the areopro drive , didn't like it not enough control.
