I'm looking forward to it as well.  The women's tour is looking quite crowded...

I am looking forward to this, as well.  Seems like she does not like being a part-time commentator and misses the spotlight on the court.

I hope she does well, but there are so many hard hitter on the tour now that I am afraid she won't be able to hang with them.  She always seemed to have problems with the power players (Davenport, the Williams') and now you've got all these Russians pounding the ball.

She is a very smart tennis player and who knows how seriously she has bene training.  For all we know she has been training secretly in the bat cave against heavy hitters getting ready to make her return.

I hope she improved her serve, cause she's going to get killed. I can name about 25 players on the WTA who can beat her in straight sets, easily.

Name away.  :)

I think with some time back she can be a top 5-15 player.  But that is if she played as much as she could and not had the foot injury again.  She would need to do what she did before, get deep into all the tournaments she played in.  And it has only been 2-3 years since she played.  I have a feeling if she comes back she will do OK.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I think I'd agree with your list until it gets to Sprem, Suarez, Golovin, Pierce.....Ferina-Elia, Loit and perhaps Sugiyama. Those women are not necessarily big hitters (aside from the power most would argue Pierce and Sprem have) And I have to say that the years of dominance and experience that Hingis has will OWN their semi-games

Did you see how hard the Chinese girls hit?  Hingis won't get past them, either.  Good luck to Hingis.  She seems to have matured since she left.  I promise if she doesn't do well quickly, her foot will start hurting again.

Well, she lost in 3 sets.  I wonder how she will take that overall.  Obviously she has not played much in terms of matches.  I would like her to keep trying some more low key tournaments and see how she does.

Who'd she lose to?

She says that she is done playing tournaments now.  I am not sure how she can base her entire decision on one match.  I guess it was fun while it lasted?  Now maybe Anna can come back. :thumbs-up:

Hingis cools talk of a comeback

Martina Hingis said she had no plans to play more tournaments after her 1-6 6-2 6-2 defeat to Marlene Weingartner at the Thailand Open on Tuesday.

"I've never had plans further than this step. Maybe I'll play some exhibitions. That's my plan," she said.

"At this point I have no plans to play any more tournaments," she said.

The former world number one was thought to be using the Thai event as a test for a full-time return after two years out with an ankle injury.

The Swiss player, 24, won 40 singles titles and 36 doubles titles in a sparkling career, including 14 Grand Slam crowns in singles and doubles

She held the world number one ranking for 209 weeks.

hardly worth all the buzz, not like there really was any.  no real tennis expert would expect her to be back on top again and winning slams.  too many good players now.

I didn't expert her to win slams, but I was hoping she could do what Seles did.  Make a comeback and at least be a threat.

I do not think she can win any slam either.  If she trys to make a full comeback I think she would be in the top 20.

Oh well.  Back to Martina riding horses and occasionally commentating.
