Yeah. So I played today for another hour and half. In the 90 degree sun from 2-4 in the afternoon.
Basically, to sum up the whole match, I played and I ran out of gas. Very Soon.
So we hit around for 10 minutes and I was pretty much ready to go home by then. Then we played our first set. I raced out to a 5-0 lead but started dieing like from 3-0 onwards. Then my friend started playing smart, making me run and before I knew it, I went from serving at 40-30 5-0 to 5-3 at which point I finally broke him to take the set. So I was pretty much about to fall dead right then and there, but I wanted to prove to myself I wasn't a chicken and could play in that sun and even when I felt like I couldn't move.
Second set, I wanted to finish it ASAP and go home. Yet, I got broken serving at 3-1 and eventually served out a long match to end it 6-3.
The killer: We both had about quarter a bottle of water - thats like 10 fl. oz.
that combined with the sun. I realize now why we always play at 6 in the morning all through summer.
Two cons: I seem to have lost my volleys. I was never a great volleyer but I did take pride in the fact that I could volley better than a lot of people and could rely on it to win points. Even serve and volley was a decent and nowadays i feel like doing it more. But I think I have lost it. Not good news. I netted half the volleys and wild ed half the volleys and got passed on the other half.
Second, I like my new service motion and am sticking to it. This time I didn't feel any pressure on my back either, so I guess that was a one time thing i did something wrong. However, this requires me to toss much higher than I usually have. maybe also because now my feet are bent by the time I toss so I am tossing from lower. So I need to work on this. I didn't have too many smooth first serves because of this, I sorta had to truncate my jumps half way which is also bad for your back, especially those topspin serves - so this might have been another reason for my backache last time.
overall happy.
