I took me a couple reads to figure this one out. :|
Studying your elbow? What good is studying your elbow? What kind of exam do you study your elbow for? Medicine? Trainer?
Then I added an 'f' to of......

Good luck on the court is nice to have, but it's usually extraneous when playing against Baker.

You know it never registered in my mind that there was a new member intro forum too. Now I feel sad, cuz I never introduced myself when I was new. Am I still eligible to introduce myself in the new member area? It's not even been 6 months... and I only have 699 posts.

My avtar is rated E for everyone. Your avtar on the other hand... and you are only 15?!  :))

Ok so this is as much for me as it is for everyone else. I figured I would save good site links in my folders but what else is a journal for then? So henceforth I'll keep track of all good instruction tennis sites I go to. This is naturally good for me but also good for any of the numerous people like me on this board who are too lazy to explore through google search to find the right ones they want. So if you want any topics tell me and I'll look them up when I get a chance. So to start off with, here are two wikipedia articles. These as I said are more for my own sanity, one is the different serves and one is the different grips. I for one do get confused all the time between all the serves because I have it learned one way but then when others say something, they don't exactly mean what I think they mean. So you know, just so I know and you know, this is what my knowledge of serve and grip terminology looks like:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grip_(tennis)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serve_(tennis)

I lost my bookmarked pages last time I sysrestored so i'll have to build up a new one this summer, I'll keep you informed.

Wikipedia here notes the American Twist as a kick serve though I think it is wrong!    The American Twist, as I understand it, is a serve where you follow through on the left side of the ball instead of the right (for righties), so the serve should bounce from left to right rather than from right to left.  You basically put the opposite spin on the ball from your normal spin serve.   I am almost positive I am right although I guess it just depends what others have heard or read.

I'm not sure about your explanation here. My take on the American Twist is the motion, or contortions you use to get spin on the ball, mostly for a righty to hit a serve to the backhand of a righty on the add court. It's twisting your body to hit a toss thrown behind the head which forces that contortion.
To get what you are describing, which I treat as a lefty spin serve hit by a right handed server you would use a forehand grip and hit inside the ball. Sort of like a windshield wiper swing or inside out serve.

Ok so three exams down, three more to go. So far I have been acing them all which is just as good because I need a 4.0. I'll be a sophomore soon :) I actually don't like college, its boring. And not fun. If I was doing only one major and a minor or something simple like that I would be able to graduate next year, I have I think 81 credits by now and one more year at 20credits a semester and I can be done with college, undergrad at least.

Anyway, so I need a job, I need to play tennis. And none of the kids I play tennis with regularly are in college so they will still be highschooling till mid june. What do you say you people find me an internship somewhere around you and I'll work there for a month and maybe also teach you some REAL tennis? :))

So.. Day from hell is over :)) After sitting through 8 hours of torture, I am surprised I am still in a condition to write this. My only two hard classes back to back, and I sorta needed a perfect score on both to assure myself a 4.0. I am afraid I didn't really nail the 100 in either class but the curve and the grade is at the teacher's discretion and theres an outside chance I'll end up with a 4.0 this semester. I doubt the curve will help me in my last exam though, its a 8 people class and 4 of them are Asian - yeah I am asian too but I am talking about the Asian that usually comes in mind around here - I wish I could immitate russell peters here :)) Worst case should be 3.8, and 3.9 is what I am guesstimating :( Oh well, as long as it doesn't hurt me I am fine - I got a lot more than what I put into it after all. I wouldn't say even a 3.8 is that bad for 6 classes out of which only one i have a notebook for and only a few that i attend class and focus in.
So basically I am FREEEEE to play tennis 24/7!!! Well I have one more exam monday but its all truss bridges and machines and that stuff. One of those engineering classes that I have been to about 10 lectures in the whole semester and am probably in the top 5 of the 200 something class, I calculated that even if I don't take the final which is 40% of the grade, I could still get at least a B in the class, and thats only with the 40% quiz grades, I didn't even do any homework which alone makes up 20%. Thats how much of a joke that class is. And to think those are the people who'll one day be building your bridges and your cars. And no I am not one of them, I am only doing engineering as a backup. I intend to pursue my doctorate in theoretical physics. Maybe theoretical math.

Well I am out to see Spiderman 3 tonight, too bad none of my freinds are back home. And then its tennis all the way!!!!
So I know this had nothing to do with tennis but I really needed to express my relief somewhere. I do have one of those journals online but I used to maintain it back in highschool (LiveJournals) and now I have that Blogger thingy but I think I have one post there and just don't remember to write in it. I figured I would just put it on here.

Be sure to give us a Spiderman update.
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

If you are a Spiderman fan you should definitely go see it. Its quite dramatic (up to expectations) and thrilling. For a 'last of the series' the ending could have been slightly better but its just as good if not better than the other ones. It was a good movie, definitely compares up perfectly and surpasses the previous two in a lot of areas.  :H

So we played a 3 and a half hour 5 set match today.
Now I have been playing with this kid for almost 4 years now, we play ever summer and basically we have helped each others game up to whatever it is now. But as far as I can remember I have never lost more than a set against him in any single given week! But lately he's stepped it up quite a bit - see he's one of those people who has the game, a really dangerous and deadly game when he's on, but somehow just hasn't been able to put it all together and click when needed. Well I did give him the Winning Ugly to read and he read it, and I never knew a book can make that much of a difference (I haven't read it yet since I have 'matured' as a tennis player) but today's match is proof otherwise. Last time we played I came back from 0-5 to beat him 7-5, so you kinda know how I usually am confident against him.
Well..
First set, we trade breaks, and he evntually goes up a few holds and beats me 6-3. I was surprised and decided to step it back up next set. Second set - he totally destroys me 6-0. At this point I am like.. what just happened? I have never lost two sets in a week to him and two sets in a single match? And I thought losing 3-6 itself was probably my worst set lost to him. So I said enough is enough and beat him 6-3 next set. And 6-4 the set after that. So I convince myself I was just not warmed up (well I haven't played in two weeks where as he sorta plays everyday) and am comfortable again. 5th set. I go up 3-0, then I am up 4-1 serving. So I am thinking, I am up serving at 4-1 in a fifth set. And this is against the kid who let me come back from 0-5 to beat him 7-5 last week. I am fine ..right?
Wrong - he beat me 6 games in a row to win the fifth set 6-4.
Bottom line, he beat me fair and square to win the match 6-3 6-0 3-6 4-6 6-4.
I am impressed, especially that last set, I mean i was rolling, my serve came back and my serve was deadly and I was playing quite well. One thing he did though in the last set was serve only first serves. And he has a deadly first serve, I don't think I won any points off his first serve in that whole last set and thats not even an exaggeration. So he double faulted, but he served first serves only.
So I am really happy for him, that was a fantastic match. But, no mercy - we are playing tommorrow morning and this time I am looking at him in a whole new perspective, thats what he did today and he beat me. So I too will now have to start thinking, protect myself from his strategies and attack him. And I'll beat him (well I hope, I can no longer be confident after today)

I am really happy though. A nice long match, played well, and even if it was after two weeks i am still fine, my body isn't falling apart. I might not be able to do the same serves again tommorrow but I am still quite well. And the fitness should only get better as I am taking a page out of Freebird's journal and starting my own little training routine - nothing as intense, I'd be surprised if i can consistently do 10 pushups, 10 situps and about 15 minutes running for more than a week.
