2005 Movie Thread

Off to another slow start to the new year. A film I'd been looking forward to seeing for 3 years--Fay Grim--was in and out of the theaters while I was in Italy.  :(

in order by rank

1. SiCKO -- excellent stuff; Michael Moore is a hoot (viva la France!)
2. The Page Turner (La Tourneuse de Pages) -- very subtle psychological thriller. Excellent.
3. The Namesake--Indian (Asia) film, only some subtitles. A bit contrived but occasionally tugs at the heartstrings and provides enough laughs (stars Kumar from "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle"). Overall enjoyable.
4. Black Sheep -- a horrible knock-off of "Sean of the Dead" except sheep replace zombies.
5. Something like "Avenue de Madeline" (French Film) It was a contrived, cutesy, Amelie-wannabe flop. I'd advise you not to see it. Splitting hairs to say it was "worse" than Black Sheep.

I wanna see Sicko but it's not playing anywhere around me. 9/11 was MUCH more controversial but it was played everywhere near me. For me so far, the best movies of 2007 are, in no particular order:

1. 300
2. SpiderMan 3
3. Shrek
4. Pirates
5. Knocked Up
6. Transformers
7. Evan Almighty

Yea! Another movie goer. We'll see if we have some cross-over by year's end. "Knocked Up" was done by the "40 Year Old Virgin" guys. That one I hope to see.

Looking forward to "The Savages", Philip Seymour Hoffman's latest. I'm a big fan.

Opening this weekend in my local movie theatre is SICKO!!!!! I'm sooooo happy. It's the next movie for me to see. Although so far, the best film of the year, for me, has been Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. I've already seen it twice and will it again on Monday with my dad. It's been the best one of the franchise so far. The Dumbledore/Voldemort battle//Harry's mental battle with Voldemort was by far the coolest sequence out of all of the movies, even Voldemort rebirth from the last movie. I did clap when Harry got his first kiss. Someone even whistled. You all don't understand. Us HP nuts have been looking forward to that kiss since the book came out in '03. It was adorable.

I just saw the Transformers tonight and Harry Potter on Wednesday, I really liked both of them ://  .

Come to think of it, I don't remember the last time I saw two really good movies within 3 days of each other, not in a movie theater anyway.

Planning on seeing Harry Potter 5 soon, but I've got a pretty tight schedule, and my parents do too, could be a while yet. Maybe after book 7 has come out.

Ummm... the books and movies come out on the same day that you get them in the UK. We're crazy about them, just not insane about them like you all are.  :)~

Anyone seen Alpha Dog? Good film. Timberlake is a much better actor than singer. I was surprised by his performance.

skip 2 and 3 and go straight to 4 and 5. BTW, the 6th one is coming this fall. It's gonna be so funny. Seriously, the book was the funniest thing I've ever read. And they are splitting the 7th movie into a 7th and an 8th. ..-) It's nice that they won't cut anything out, but I would hav preferred just one really long movie. Most true fans would really appreciate a 4 hour movie, like LOTR:ROTK
