Racist abuse hurled at Hamilton in Barcelona!! 

The 23-year-old Briton, who narrowly missed out on last year's world title to Kimi Raikkonen, had abuse hurled at him from the stands, which were full of public visitors on the day.

Eyewitnesses told the Spanish sports daily Marca that he was booed whenever he walked from McLaren's motorhome to the garage, with insults that translate as "bloody black" and "black s**t" common. 

Hamilton has become deeply unpopular in Spain because of his rivalry with former team-mate Fernando Alonso last season.

Absolutely disgusting to hear this, they ought to be ashamed of themselves, and once again a few sport supporters are giving Spain a reputation of being racist still, as this is something that still happens at some football matches in Spain and even the Spanish football coach was racist towards Thierry Henry.

Circuit director Ramon Pradera said that anybody caught shouting offensive words would be thrown out of the circuit immediately and also demanded that fences be put up around the McLaren area for the team's safety!!!  . "We would like to make a plea to the fans to behave correctly, no type of offensive behaviour can be tolerated," he said.

Disgusting stuff from a small minority of Spaniards (they don't reflect on the majority, I'm sure). conchita, is there any prospect of Aragones being sacked?

Yeah I've seen it happen in La Liga far too often! and what you say about your national coach is exactly what I have to agree with as well. He's a bad image for your country, isn't a great coach and is still leaving Raul out, even though he's still one of Spain's very best players.

KS, you are wrong, fans are horrible in primera liga matches, see Roberto Carlos, Etoo, Kameni...disgusting, clubs are only fined, stadiums should be closed.
Aragones will be sacked for sure after Euro Cup 08, Spain will lose for sure in QFs against one of the teams of the group of death...he is not calling Real Captain Raul!!, the problem is that Benitez and Ramos will not be available.

A small minority can still have a great effect. Even in an 80,000-seater stadium, 1,000 racist bigots can have a strong impression. Don't be so sure Benitez won't be available by Euro 2008, Liverpool are having a horrible season and he is under big pressure from the new owners.

Spain's motorsport federation has hit out at the "mindless idiots" who hurled racist abuse at Lewis Hamilton during Formula One testing at Barcelona at the weekend. 

The 23-year-old Briton, who struck up a deep rivalry with Spain's racing hero Fernando Alonso during their time together at McLaren last year, was booed whenever he left the team's garage or motorhome by Alonso supporters. Far worse though, were the monkey costumes a number wore, along with tee-shirts with the phrase "I am in Hamilton's family" emblazoned across them, and the cries from the stands that translated as "bloody black" and "black s**t."
And, after Formula One's governing body the FIA warned that Spain risked losing its Grands Prix unless it took action, the RFEA said that anyone caught acting racist in the future would face serious sanctions. "The Federation wants to show its absolute repulse at these incomprehensible events," the RFEA said. "These kind of madmen who confuse sporting rivalry with violence must know that the Federation will have no tolerance with them."

Barcelona is due to host the Spanish Grand Prix on April 27. It will be the fifth round of the world championship

Sydney set to launch GP bid!! Sydney are set to launch an audacious bid to ensure the Australian Grand Prix stays on the Formula One calendar, if Melbourne loses its right to stage the race after next year. Bernie Ecclestone siad that he was unlikely to renew a race contract with organisers of the current race at Albert Park in Melbourne. The reasons are believed to revolve around Victoria premier's reluctance to sanction a move to have the race held at night - something that Ecclestone wants to maximise TV viewing figures in European time zones.
Australia has hosted a Formula One race every year since 1985, with Adelaide in South Australia hosting the race until it was switched to Melbourne in 1996. It is unknown whether a move to Sydney would mean a re-development of the Eastern Creek or Oran Park circuits, or whether a street race would be set up.

Good point. I guess if you throw a banan skin at a footballer, you can hit, but you've not got much chance of hitting a 150mph F1 car

If an incident happens like it did in Barcelona yesterday then there's talk that Spain will lose BOTH of its Grand Prix's, the Spanish one in Barcelona, and the European one in Valencoa.

Father Cornelius Horan, Suicidal lunatic mad Irish priest , ran down the Hangar straight in his green vest, green jockstrap and orange kilt with the Star of David pinned to the front, waving placards at the drivers with a "Read the Bible, the Bible is always right" message which was so faint no-one would have been able to read it!  Apparently Horan believes that the world is about to end because of events in the Middle East, and he has been doing 'dances for peace' in London in his Irish costume. By running onto the track like that, the only thing that was likely to end was his own life!!! Far from advancing his cause, Horan's protest was a disservice to the Bible and to Christianity in general, to interfere with and interrupt others' organised events and to essentially break the law and put people's lives at risk.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, De Lima was attempting to become the first Brazilian to win an Olympic gold medal at the men's marathon event. Near the 35 km (21.75 miles) mark with less than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to finish, and holding a lead of approximately 48 seconds, de Lima was pushed into the crowd by a spectator named Cornelius Horan, a defrocked Irish priest. Greek spectator Polyvios Kossivas subdued Horan and helped Vanderlei up and back to the lane. De Lima lost about 20 seconds in the incident, and was passed by Stefano Baldini (Italy) and Mebrahtom Keflezighi (United States) later at the 38 km (23.6 miles) mark. He finished third with a time of 2:12.11, winning the bronze medal. De Lima was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal at the closing ceremony as a result of de Lima's "...exceptional demonstration of fair play and Olympic values during this evening's marathon."

I remembered him from the Olympics, but I didn't realise he'd made a reputation for himself! I wasn't really a follower of F1 until Lewis came along, so I didn't really remember the F1 incident.

that incident will happen again, can not imagine what will hapen if Hamilton wins in Valencia, ugly!!! but 2008 is Ferrari all the way imho.
btw can not wait to see another urban circuit in f1racing, singapore is also a new track in calendar.

Yeah Nurbeugring has been dropped from the calendar and Germany now just has the one GP but Spain with Valencia now being on the calendar have the 2 GPs.
