that was an excellent choice, MT! Bravo!
kids, don't be fool about "hard" drugs like cocaine and "soft" drugs like pot. all drugs only destroy lifes that's why they are forbidden and you don't need them at all to have fun in pubs or discos.

When the dictatorship ended in the late 70's and democracy came here, there was a boom in Spain, a lot of people were taking drugs til the mid 80's, and one singer (who sadly passed away some years ago) made a wonderful song at that time of how drugs destroy lifes.

Joan Baptista Humet, "Clara"

this is a rough translation from google. sorry for my bad english.

Clara
adrift
no luck in choosing the exit door.

Clara
abandoned
loneliness in the arms of another.

Hoping to make friends in the "snow"
protected from other lucidity
discovering worlds where it never rains,
escaping again and again

Shrinking pains
to navigate
black stars were in her veins
and nobody would ask.

Clara
was caught abandoned the work,
collapsed.

Clara
languished
lost on a path of anxiety and ragweed.

Clara
said nothing
and one day disappeared.

Traveling sidewalks who saw it say
adjusting the way to the others,
trying to do anything for money
incarse to "fire" once more.

That morning
Clara sank,
was the sea of fear in her eyes,
soaked clothing
and soil for a pillow,
and slowly dawned.

this song is like an anthem against drugs, here's another video of the song.

sadly, since the mid 90's people start to take a lot of drugs again in Spain til now. Morocco is close, easy to get hashish, and Spain is the bridge/door to all the drugs that came from Latin America to Europe. There are plenty of drugs in discos for example.  :(
I had a friend in high school, she was very intelligent. She passed the exams to go to univ with an overall mark of 9.8 out of 10. She choose arts as a career, she could have study far more difficult careers. Then, at univ, she started to know bad people who became friends of her and were drug users. She moved to an apartment in an ugly and plenty of drugs area of the city. She lost contact with family and friends from school. Then, one day, she died, overdose of heroine.  :(

I've witnessed the affects of substance abuse first hand myself.
It's a problem that affects millions of individuals and their families.
For many, they lack the self-respect necessary to avoid drug abuse. :(

very nice song, MT, great choice, all about trying to overcome personal losses!  :) I totally agree with what you said about drugs users, for many the problem is self respect and also self esteem and bad choice of friends.

finally,  :) after 3 years 1 member of the forum posting a country song.  :)
I love country music  :) but I had no idea about great country singers/song, just go figure I only know Garth Brooks.  :(

this is the song I listen a lot to remember my friends who passed away at a very young age, less than 25 years old. it's very sad but I remember them with this song and others we liked. Obviously you will never forget your friends! So many great memories! I think, they are in heaven now! When you are so unlucky to see friends passing away at a very young age, you realise how important is to try to enjoy each day.
my best friend in school: went to the hospital in 9/11 because she had a terrible headache, they only gave her and aspirin, the headache continued, doctors discovered she had a brain tumour and they were not able to do something. A surgery was impossible, it was too late. She passed away 8 months later, only 24 years old.  :(

As a deeply Catholic, I love the final words Pope Benedict XVI used during the funeral of the great and unforgettable Spanish Cardinal Javierre at the Vatican about death. ""It is marvelous", Cardinal Javierre wrote, "to think that the series of sins of our life does not matter, that it suffices to raise our eyes and see the gesture of the Savior, who welcomes us one by one with infinite kindness in an extremely loving way. In this perspective", he ended, "the farewell is haloed with hope and joy". ://

Thank so much for those great country songs, MT!  :)
I love all three, the 2nd touched me deeply, great lyrics and telling the story of Hank Williams, Sr. Quite sad he got in trouble because of alcoholism and he reached the top of the charts after his death. This song is very emotional. The third one is great, a joy to listen, a genius, full of talent. I guess he is one of the most important country legends of all time!  :)
George Jones has a very nice voice and I like his style. :)

That was an incredible introduction to country music, thank you so much, I love the style of country music, it's like folk and very relaxing.
I have all my life love to learn from myself things, like languages, sports and music for example but I find country music very difficult to explore and get an overall opinion, it's too complicated for me and it didn't happened to me trying to learn the history of Italian/french/Brazilian songs and artists for example. It will help me in my discovery of country music if you could write me a top 10 list about the greatest country singers of all time!  :)

I felt not like a cow, in my previous post, It was like almost a dinosaur, saying "some songs from this century".   :)
I love classical music, oldies, especially from the 50's until the great days of disco music in the 70's.  :)

One of my fav. American singers is Bob Seger and I love the version of Kenny Rogers with Sheena Easton of the song "We've Got Tonight".  :)

I mentioned Sheena Easton, the great Scottish artist, and Shirley Bassey in my previous post.
The only songs from the James Bond saga that I like are the trilogy of the great Shirley, Goldfinger, Diamonds are forever, Moonraker, Gladys Knight "License to kill" and this one from Sheena, "For your eyes only"! :)

the song was used for a promo of one of the most important Spanish beer factories: Mahou.
Comelade is from the south of France and his style is popular/folklore music, routing back from the Occitan region, southeast of France.

Music is your one redeeming value. Post a link to a song of theirs. I'm not familiar with them. :H
