For me old school hip hop would be Grand Master Flash & the Furious Five, but that's probably not what Pacer is talking about. Chumbawamba had a pretty big hit with Tubthumping back in '98 but has done little since. Interestingly they are in league with the nefarious Negativland and on the same label Seeland that Negativland records on. They along with the KLF would be concidered musical pirates, cutting and pasting about anything to make a song.
I've been listening to Negativland's radio show called Over the Edge for years. A fascination 3 (and sometimes 5) hours. You might call it an audio montage.
Now that's some serious old old school lol. I didn't really start hearing their music until the early 90's and I think they were out in the late 70's early 80's right? Chumbawamba- I get knocked down them I get up again..... Pissing the night away. That's the song? I vaguely remember it.
That's the song.
Pissing the night away; that must be due to the whiskey drink, the vodka drink, the lager drink and the cider drink.
I remember back in '82, playing pool in my barracks in Okinawa playing Grandmaster Flash's 'The Message' album and getting wierd looks from my darker green friends (to explain; in the Marines there were no whites, no blacks, no browns, only green).
