Public enemy had some of the best lyrics and beats out back then. The last couple years I've been getting I guess introduced more to Run DMC because I don't remember that much from them other than the song My Adidas. I think they were mostly early eighties and I was too young probably.

How about Run DMC and Aerosmith together?    'Walk This Way'!  

Oh Yeah!!! That song was killer, I think that was one of the first rap/rock musical fussions right? Or was that Blondie?

Rapture was more of a fusion of new wave/pop and rap, but during that time rap was in itself a fusion of styles. Take a backing track of whatever, and rap over it. 'Walk This Way' was only Run DMC's biggest and most successfull rap/rock song. They pretty much made a career over taking metal and rock riffs and creating raps over them. The first one I head was King Of Rock from a couple years before that.
Ice-T (yes the same Ice T from Law & Order SVU) mined the same field in a different way, with more of a rap/rock/punk esthetic. He was also in an extremely controversial rock/rap group called Body Count.

I actually shook his hand at a Lollapolooza concert and I bought a Body Count CD because I was in to that stuff.

I was into the rap side. I had 6 in the Mornin' and Power, plus the original NWA (8 Ball etc...), but after that Gansta Rap took over and I lost interest (even though Ice T & NWA wrote the blueprint). What I liked about rap was the inventiveness and willingness to experiment. When NWA and Dr Dre took over and everyone else fell in line, I dropped out. A few forays with PM Dawn and Disposable Heroes of Hipopracy (speaking of Public Enemy), but in general I never went back to rap. I never really took to the heavier side of rap, or rock.

I don't really remember ICE-T as a rapper, I remember more of the media hoopla that surrounded him though. I agree, post Gangsta rap era hip hop music has become much less creative and inventive than hip hop music of the 80's. 80's rappers acutally told creative stories that made sense, it was more about the music, lyrics and having a good time. Now hip hop is more about the image and less about actual musical content and lyrics. It's really hard to find good hip hop these days, though there are artist like Common, Outkast, Roots, Mos def, little brother etc... When I want to listen to hip hop it's almost exclusively old school hip hop. Current hip hop has become an image is everything commercial mess, but I guess that's probably true of most current music.

You don't remember 'F!ck the Police'?   I don't remember any other songs right now because it has been to long since I have listened to Ice-T.   He was involved in the movie Ricochet with some acting and songs.  I think I have that soundtrack or maybe the song Ricochet was on another one of his albums...............my memory is s**te!      What rapper/group did the song for the movie Colors?  "Colors, colors, colors, cu-colors, colors, I am a nightmare walking, pychopath talking, blah, blah, blah, quick is my fuse!"

Anyone who's seen Hewlett Packard comercials from a few years ago will recognise a song called 'Perpetuum Motion' from the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It's a perfect song, except that it might go on a bit longer.
It calls to mind Pachbell's Cannon, more energetic, but just as beautiful.  Penguin Cafe had hit some golden moments before, but they've also come up with some stinkers.
This song is one of the best ever IMO.

I don't remember that song at all, I have images in my mind of protest and his albums being bulldozed but maybe that was someone else. There was some other song he did that I do remember somewhat but can't recall the title. To me his flow was bad, I didn't like him and I didn't see what other people saw in him, his voice made me sleepy. I remember the movie Colors though, my older cousins were nuts over that movie, they could pretty much recite it line for line.
