Diesel in some areas has now hit a high of £6 per gallon so around $11.30, with some truckers now taking their protest down to London

Tell them to go over to the middle east.  I understand gas is .26/gallon (of course they may not live through the suicide bombings and all...)

0.26/gallon wow!! Even with the number of suicide bombings thats a heck of a lot of money we'd be saving each time- all we'd have to do is avoid the bombs somehow

Sure... get an airline ticket, ship your car over, gas and fill up, and you still might see a savings!

Clearly this is the answer to the gas issues in the world, but I'm of two minds about this attempt. On the one hand I like what they are doing, on the other hand they are acting like what they are doing is revolutionary. It's not. In fact Tesla is already building production model electric cars. What I'd like to see is singers and activists like Young putting pressure on Tesla to build electric cars priced for the masses instead of just the ultra rich. Currently they are completing, and producing cars that are engineered to compete with the Porche, Lotus and Ferrari's of the world. Their car is priced at $100,000, and there is a very long waiting list for one.

Singer focuses energy on electric car

WICHITA, Kansas (AP) -- Neil Young, the rocker who provided some of the soundtrack to Vietnam-era protests, is trying to change the world again -- with his car.

Young has teamed up with Johnathan Goodwin, a Wichita mechanic who has developed a national reputation for re-engineering the power units of big cars to get more horsepower but use less fuel.

The two are looking to convert Young's 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible to operate on an electric battery.

Ultimately, they said, they want the Continental to provide a model for the world's first affordable mass-produced electric-powered automobile.

"Johnathan and this car are going to make history," Young told The Wichita Eagle.

"We're going to change the world; we're going to create a car that will allow us to stop giving our wealth to other countries for petroleum."

Young has poured about $120,000 so far into the project, Goodwin said.

What's more, the prototype power system worked during a 12-mile test drive of the car last week -- albeit with a few glitches.

"She was awesome," Young said of the battery-operated car. "Her acceleration was incredible, she moved with hardly a sound; it was so quiet we could hear the wind through the tags of other cars."

The drive almost ended in disaster when Goodwin, who controls acceleration with a knob in the back seat, twisted it the wrong way while approaching an entrance ramp and the vehicle lurched toward the rear of another car.

Young, in the passenger seat, was able to hit the brakes in time.

"Still needs work," said Goodwin, 37.

Young, 62, said he came across taped interviews of Goodwin eight months ago on the Internet, including a segment for the MTV show "Pimp My Ride." Goodwin's clientele includes California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had Goodwin work on his Hummer.

Young said he set out wanting his car to be able to use biodiesel, but later asked Goodwin whether they could instead power it with batteries and use it as a template to make electric cars more mainstream.

"The technology to make a practical and affordable electric car has been around for a long time," Goodwin said. "There are all sorts of ways of doing it and all sorts of ways to work out how to make it work on a national scale."

For Young, the project may finally complete a mission he set for himself with his music.

"You know, I thought long ago you could change the world by writing songs," he said.

"But you can't change the world by writing songs. Oh, you can inspire a few people, get some of them to change their thinking about something. But you can't change the world by writing songs.

"But we could change it with this car."

Just filled up at $3.86, but I've alway searched out the lowest price. Most stations around here are at $3.95.
It strikes me that the gas stations are going to have to raise their $75 limit. It's just not high enough. At $3.95/gallon, $75 gets you just under 19 gallons. Most SUVs and trucks have 25 gallon tanks. These people can't fill up anymore. It cost me $56 to fill up a 15 gallon tank.

Yeah, that $75 governor was nabbing wifey's truck even before the prices soared even more, now its getting kind of ridiculous.  I hit $3.86 last night and most everywhere else is even higher..........I scope them just like Dmast said!

France is slightly more expensive than over here in England as in Paris it was around 50p per gallon/$1 more expensive than in Britain

$4.01 here last night, better fill up 'cause everywhere else in this area is around 4.10-4.15.  Hey, whaddaya expect in the Boondocks!

Last time I filled the MonsterTruck it came in at $107.63.  Yikes!

Just yesterday CNN showed a gas station bulletin board with prices on it.  I checked CNN later that day and even the prices on that image went up!  Going up everywhere!

I've posted this website before, but instead of going to CNN, just go to the people who are in the business of tracking gas prices. They use social networking to keep their database updated constantly.

Shows just how bad its going as you have nailed it with that one. Soon it will be well above the 120p mark  I remember not too long<around 10 years ago> ago when it was under 70p per litre

Indeed!  We have stayed at $3.90 for the last week or so.  Gee, what a deal!
