Topic: Gas prices??? What are you paying at the pump?

Just talking to my brother who is living near Columbus. He says you are paying $3.19/gal. No he is a bit of a glass half empty kind go guy. Well let's face it, he's a glass empty kind of a guy. So I have to think he's talking about the most expensive gass (92 octane) or the most expensive stations.
But it's pretty strange that when I visited, gas in Ohio was less expensive than here in New England. So has something happened there that you are pay a lot more for gas then last year, or do I have to factor in the empty glass part?
Here in Mass we are paying an average of $2.85-$2.95 for regular. I just paid $2.85 last night.

Poor managment on the part of the now former big three.
The main reason Toyota is the #1 car manufacturer in the world is that the US auto makers focused on making and selling trucks and SUVs. Especially Ford. They are being hoist by their own patard.
You'd think they would have learned their lesson after the mid-seventies. Back then they were still making huge metal beasts while Datsun, Toyota and Honda made small gas efficient cars. OPEC started playing footsy with oil prices and gas prices rose to, then unbelieveable, highs. Gas lines at the gas pumps, some areas only allowing people to fill up on odd or even days.
That gave the Japanese automakers the foot in the door they needed and they haven't looked back. Especially Toyota.

Yes, and GM had also developed a highly successful electric car in the mid nineties that could compete performance wise with any other car and ran purely on battery. and then the gas barons killed it. I am glad to see the toyota/honda hybrids have inspired Ford to come up with a few of thier own (one?)

I don't know anything about it!   I did hear that Exxon made more money this year than they ever have!  Their stickin' it to us!    We gotta reverse it and "stick it to the man"!

Friday afternoon, it was $3.45 at a couple of places here in Podunkville, Texas; I filled up for $3.35 at noon. The most interesting part is that we're only 45 miles from two refineries!

Oh, and I'd take a gander at the "middle man" in the pricing...trust me, some of these convenience stores and "independents" are making money hand over fist.

Just filled up for $2.89/gal. But then I passed gas station that was charging $2.82.
But that was after seeing a station that was charging $3.15/gal.

I remember back in college, a mere 8 years ago, I filled up at a gas station for 88 cents per gallon.  That was the lowest I ever saw it.  I miss those days...

I seem to remember $.49/gal. Way back before OPEC got started controlling gas prices.

i can not disagree with this statement. i laugh when ford made a statement about their commitment to small cars. but yet they don't want to invest the money into them because there is very little profit margin. well hello, go to your overseas affiliates and look at what they are selling. by the way, the models that are being sold overseas will never make it to the US market. and they are good looking high quality cars as well.

I payed $3.19 just late last week and the couple of gas stations I use are usually low compared to others around here!

A quick funny story:   I was filling the wifey's truck recently and used credit card at the pump.  It got up to $75 and the pump shut off.  I had to go through the whole credit card entry process again just to fill her truck (another $15 or something)!     I guess those pumps have some automatic shut-off at $75 for some reason!   Ouch!
