I would say definitely Kuerten, so elegant and at the same time crushing. Watch his matches against Agassi and Sampras in Lisbon in 2000, it was amazing then.

To tell you the truth, I couldn't think of many notable one handers, so please share any that you would like to add, I know I probably forgot some great ones.

Many might disagree but I think fundamentally Sampras' and Feds' 1 hand BH's were sweetness!   ;)

Probably Gasquet, but unfortunately it isn't backed up with much else. If we keep it to great players, I think Federer's has to be right up there, probably above Kuerten, but I didn't see much of Edberg or Lendl, so I can't comment much on them.

No, I think Kuerten's is better than Federer. Lendl? Edberg? Give me Gasquet's backhand over all of 'em. He can keep his brain, but give me his backhand.

I picked other, because like Murray I havn't really seen these people play.  But when I first saw the title the two first into my mind were Sampras and Federer.

For the girls game I would definitly say Henin.

I am going with other.  I think it is a close tie between Federer, Pavel and myself.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I said Edberg although I do like Kuerten's to. I still think Federer's the best and even better is Gasquet's but I didn't want to vote other and have to post to explain myself.

Well, you got 2 of the 3 right! :laugh-bounce:

I'm bias, of course, but I like Roger's back-hand.  Gasquet's look good but he is not consistent enough with his game for me to even appreciate his backhand!  But Roger said he thanked all those pros for hitting to his backhand over the years because that shot use to be a weakness! :))   Now it's a strength.  I tell all those people - keep hitting to his backhand!  You're making it stronger! :))

I guess saying Gasquet is like saying Karlovic in the greatest ever serve category. It's true that he probably does have the best ever, but to win a 'greatest ever' you have to be a great in your own right.

I agree and the Karlovic comparison is great! ://

I really don't think Federer's is better than Guga's, Federer's is at best a weapon, at worst sub-par. Every time Guga stepped on court his backhand was a weapon, and he hit a clean ball nearly every time.

I have to weigh in somewhere inbetween here. No way is Federer's backhand better than Kuerten's, but it's more than 'at best a weapon' either. I've seen Federer hit some amazing shots off that side. He's the only one handed backhand player I've ever seen turn around a Safin power forehand to the back hand and treat it like a sitter (I don't recall seeing Kuerten play Safin).

In truth Guga's was probably above Fed's, but how fricking pretty does Gasquet's backhand look. He's threading the needle. :P

Thank you Gasquet: he's validated my 'other' vote. 93 winners yesterday: probably about 2 thirds on the backhand.

Yeah, Gasquet played extremely well in that match.
