The perfect time for my 1K post.  Just finished 2.5 hours of social tennis with a 24 yr. old buddy.  Worked up a good sweat and got to practice some relaxation techniques on my serve.  Had some good laughs too as this guy is quite an athlete and was able to smack some wicked returns off my 'big serve'!  A few Sierras for a cool down and all is good in my world.  Will strive to improve the quality of my posts in the next 1K....that shouldn't be hard!

Congrats Monster!! Keep junk limited to once per week and remember, its not always what you eat but portions, dont eat full plates. Do the trick again, lose weight and keep at it  .

Please keep in mind there is very little running going on during these workouts!   A couple of 2 minute trots at 5mph is all my knees can take at this time.  Mostly walking at 3.7-4.2mph at an incline of 6-12%.  For a break I slow the pace and incline down and use 5lb weights to do curls, lateral and front raises and upright rows this keeps the heartrate up around 120+ and gives my legs a break.  I've also started using resistance bands to do chest and back workouts once I get off the treadmill.

A good outing yesterday subbing in for the Wed. afternoon group.
Started strong, moving well in my new boots.  New Balance 1002 size 12 4E.
Served well for about an hour then got a tired and overall quality of play dropped dramatically.  1 highlight reel shot-  a backhand down the line while retrieving a lob.  Flattened the shot out which added some good pace.  Both opponents remarked afterwards that they were anticipating lob all the way.
6-4, 5-7, 3-4 George and I against Bob and Neal.  They were able to turn the tables on us by playing 2 back and we were unable to consistently put the ball away.  We definitely should have played more shots to Neal the weaker player, but instead kept flailing away as usual.
Overall good fun as it's always nice to play 'up'!

Good hits tonight with the A team.  Partnered with Steve a solid 5.0+ and we took out 2 4.5/5.0 combo 6-0!!!! and 6/6 7-4 in the TB!  We rolled hard in the first set on the back of some Monster serves and crackerjack returns by SteveO.  The opponents were reeling as I managed to crash 4 heavy overheads.  The intimidation factor was in full force this set!

Immediate letdown in the second set found us gasping for air down 3-0 before Steve managed to hold first for us.  I am baked as it's now 9:30pm and I managed to do 3+miles on the treadmill at 6am this morning.  Still, we managed to claw our way back into the set as Steve kicked his serve up to full speed and I managed several nice lob returns (7-10 tonight).  It was nip and tuck to the finish as I struggled to maintain my balance and not get in my partners way.  With just a few errors by our opponents and a few lucky let cords for us we take it to a TB where we cruise to a 7-4 victory.

The highlight shot of the night was when a lob was hit off my serve to the deuce court.  I'm charging hard and call for  the shot-  'Mine!  Mine!' but Steve being the stronger player and used to taking most balls is on a collision course with me.  He finally crumples beneath me just as I smash the overhead for a winner and we land in a heap on the court.  He's lucky he wasn't severly crushed!!!

Plenty of solid doubles points with hot multiple exchanges at the net and some good scrambling points as well.  Just the type of play I need to keep my motivation for improving my fitness!!!

Ah, that suxors, very sorry to hear that.  Good that you're still able to get some calorie-burning in.  I hope the heel heals (yuck yuck) quickly.  I know Scooter would use that as an excuse for not playing up to snuff...

I always hated exercise bikes, my legs burned out before my heart.  How do you like the elliptical?  I haven't tried one yet.

It's been years since I could run 5M straight.

You mentioned the running has bothered your heel.  Have you considered new shoes or gel inserts?

The only piece of gym equipment I like is the stairclimber or whatever it's called. I can't stand the treadmill or the bike really. Thank god for plyometrics.

When I belonged to the local Gold's Gym I used the stairclimber daily, it was awesome.  It seemed like I was able to raise my heart rate with less effort on the stepper than with any other piece of equipment.  I also used to use a Nordic Track ski machine which was great for low impact cardio work.

Warmed up with my buddy Dan for a couple hours this morning.  A light hit for him before heading to his first tourney of the year down in Massachusetts.  It was all I could do hang with him for the first hour, after that I was spent.  Lots of 20+ shot rallies and a good half hour of serving practice for me.  He just turned 60 and has the legs of a 24 year old!  This guy can run all day.   He's been working on hitting a flatter forehand and I got a good look at that shot today.  Even when I get back up to speed, he's going to be a tough nut to crack.

Cooperative rallies with moderate pace.  I would say Dan is definitely a 4.5 player.  Will relay the results of his play in the over 60 tourney today after we hit tomorrow.

20+ shot rallies?  At full pace or more just trying to keep the ball in play?  Multiple 20+ shot rallies at full pace seems more than a 4.0 would really be capable of. 

I have enough of those  full play, not to often though.
