Twas to Lake George I went, for a mini vacation.

How dare you call me a poser! ;-()   And a good one at that! :lmao:

Busy time of year for me, so my posts may be fewer for awhile.
The Good News is I've renewed my membership at the local indoor club and that begins in Sept. 1.  Am really looking forward to that. :H

Off to Newport, RI to watch Johnny Mac and crew in the Outback Champions Series.
Should see some good matches on Saturday.
Hoping to have J Mac sign the vintage Dunlop Maxply McEnroe woodie I just got a few weeks ago.  woooohoooo! :))

For any of you T4U fans that might be looking to catch a glimpse of the elusive Monster Truck at this event, I will be sporting my usual tenny wear-  a blaze orange shirt and black shorts.
Some have likened my appearance to that of the Great Pumpkin..... ;;)

Had a great day in Newport last Saturday watching Johnny Mac and the "old-timers".

Also got to play twice this week for a total of 7 hours, wooohooo.
Finally starting to regain my footwork on a few points.  Hard work for the big guy.
Doing lots of drills in preparation for the upcoming city tourney.  If anyone has a favorite drill for 2 players practicing doubles strategy, drop 'em in here!

Hitting cross-court groundies is fun.  You can also do that with one at the net, or even volley cross-court with both near the net.  If you want to incorporate the serve and return then one can serve and the other return and play out cross-court points.  One that I really like is playing points using only 1/2 the court divided long ways.............so you are playing in your deuce court side and the other guy plays his ad-side.  You can come to net or stay back or whatever you want........first one to 10 points wins.

Mostly volley drills.
One - start playing half court tennis. Play points where the ball has to land in the service box. If it lands out of the service box it's out. When you start getting too good at that with just one box, play half court using both boxes.
Two - I've used this before. Two players at the net, volleying. Object keep the ball down. If the ball gets up drill someone...safely.
Three - I did a session with a friend of mine with Richie Reneberg's coach and he did what he called a monster drill. Basically, the coach fed a ball and we went after it. The catch; you can't let the ball bounce. And the coach would hit it anywhere. Start with some volleys, and the start throwing in lobs wide shots midcourt shots, and even balls out of the court. Make the net guy run and chase balls untill he can't chase any more. If he gets too good at retrieving, put 5 or 10 pount weights on his ankles and go again.

Playing hooky today.  Just finished stringing up 2 PS 85's for  a buddy and we're off to the courts for some mid-morning tenny.  Does anyone have a stringers pathfinder awl?  If so, does it work well?  Am having some problems feeding the final crosses on the ProStaffs and thought the pathfinder might work.

I don't have one, but here are some comments on it from TW:

For my part I just use a normal awl.

Thanks DM!

The awls that came with my Eagnas don't even fit through the grommets.
I was hoping the pathfinder contained a hollow tube which could be slipped through from either side of the racquet.
Will hit the local hardware store to find a smaller awl and give that a try.
The PS 85s in particular are a real pain in the butt for me and as you've seen my butt ;;) , you know that's alotta pain! :-o

Do you like the Eagnas stringer? Which one do you have? I looked into them a couple years ago, but so many horror stories about them scared me off. Having talked with more stringers it sounds like they are poorly made as well.

2 hours of doubles drills this a.m. in prep for the city tourney this weekend.
My favorite drill is to play points cross court only (simulate players at net would put away shots to them) with both players trying to advance to the net.  Games to 11 from one side at a time allow both the server and returner to work through problem areas through repetition.

Still searching for my serve.   No consistency and no power.  I might actually have to practice a bit the next few days.....

I don't like it.
It's the Eagnas GA.  Got it in 2003 for $565.00.  The string gripper and clamps pinch the string no matter what the adjustment.  The table flexes a tad when tension is pulled.  The tools that came with it are useless :ranting: ,  I could go on and on.
Looking back I should have coughed up the cash and gotten the Neos.
That's the one lesson I've learned over the past 5 years working for myself-  do not, I repeat, do not buy chincy tools.
What are you using for a stringer?
