So now that I've got a file downloaded I'm unable to view it.
Tried DivX viewer and it said the file is not a movie file.
Any thoughts guys?

The first suggestion is to go and get VLC (Video Lan Client). That plays pretty much any codec out there. What kind of computer are we talking about here?

Will give that a try.
Am running a 5 year old Compaq Presario  2.16 GHz, 448 Meg Ram, not sure about the hard drive.
Thanks D.

I've got a PIII 700 mhz computer (in addition to others) that can run most of the videos I've either downloaded or made. I think your computer is robust enough to handle it. VLC may be your answer. If not I don't know. Maybe your just have a bad video card. Hmmm 448 meg RAM is an intersting number. I'm guess what you have is 512 megs of memory installed and you are using your motherboard's video chip which is pulling 64 meg to handle video. That should be sufficient.

you mean you actually downloaded a file that's a real video ? Like complete?! That fast?! How big is the file, were there a lot of seeders? Damn thats fast.

Oh and funny story thought I'd share as its related to this. so I was torrenting the whole day yesterday while I was at college right? Turns out I crossed the 25000mb bandwidth limit in the past one week offered to wireless users and it wouldn't let me sign onto the wireless today. I have to wait till my quote comes back under 25000, its at 27something. Maybe I should have limited the speed on that McenroeBorg final

The more of us that can get on board, and seed, the better the torrent site gets. The faster everyone can download videos. I don't know how long it took Monster to get his, but I usually have to wait a day or 2 for the thing to complete. But I've got other things coming as well. I get my CSI and Law & Order fix via torrent as well.

Heck, the one match only took about 3 hours, came in at just under 1 gig.
Still haven't been able to view tho', even with the new vid player.
What a pain in the arse.
Will chalk it up to my inexperience.

You got VLC and it still doesn't play? Plus you've got the Divx player and it doesn't play on that?
What's the extension? I'm assuming it's Divx.

Try downloading this video. It's fairly short (70 mb) and it's divx.

3 hours for under 1 gig is ridiculous. It took me 15 hours+ to download 1 gig and I thought that was really really fast (probably cuz the stuff I download usually like math and physics books are like 5 gigs and take like a week or two at least if I levae my computer on most of the time). kinda sucks that you can't play it. as dmast said, whats the extension? you still didn't menton what file it was that way i too can have a look to see if i find anything missing or something. in general if its a video file then vlc should have played it.

avi(1)  ? with the 1 next to it? looks like its a part file or something.? well I started that torrent and as far as I can see its just an avi file. strange that vlc wouldn't play it. are you sure its not some part file that your torrent client is putting there? I know utorrent if I tell it to will add a .ut at the end of incomplete files so they cannot be corrupted while downloading.

In BitLord it says the download is complete (100%).
Not sure what the (1) is after the avi.

ok this might sound silly but that is definitely the file you downloaded right? that is its in the folder where your downloads are kept and its not just a "dummy file" linked to the torrent? Because i have that download running right now and I go to its download location and see a clean avi file (won't run cuz its not complete but avi file it is that should work when its done).

Don't worry about silly, that could certainly be me!
I did the "dummy file" think earlier and think I've got that straightened out.
The file took about 3 hours to download and I watched the % completed increment up to 100%.  Am crashing for now.  Will try some more tomorrow.  Thanks for your help! :thank-you:

But did the file play in VLC?
I don't like the (1) at the end of that file.... :confused1: Typically that's what a computer does if you pull something out of you cache and copy it to a directory. But that doesn't diable the file.
It's possible it's a zip, or RAR file that's been mislabled. But if it's an divx avi, and you were able to play the file I loaded on megaupload (should be a game from the Conners/Haarhus '91 US Open) than that's exactly what that is. You should be able to play it. :confused1:

Yep, played just fine with VLC.
I think I'll try and download the torrent again later today.

Mr.M Truck - yo i have no idea whats up with your file. I torrented it and its working flawlessly. Try torrenting again I suppose if its not  a big deal. If its a pain then I could always just put it up onto megaupload (or soemthing like that that has a 1gig limit sicne this particular file is under a gig) for you. And it should play if you have the same file as me and others because its working fine for us and you said the file dmast sent you was also working fine.
