2009 NFL Draft T4U Break-down: Rounds 1 and 2

Lots o' interesting moves in Ohio.

@ #6 Cincinnati select OT Andre Smith. From sure thing to possible 2009 Draft Buster; this guy is a fat baby. Eugene Monroe went 2 picks later. I would have taken Smith if he was all that was left. Jason Smith went #2 and Michael Oher just went at #23. That's 4 OTs in the first round. I don't like this pick! 


Cleveland has traded down twice from #5 to stockpile picks. Now picking at 21.


@ #19 Philadelphia goes with another speedy WR/return guy. I've seen this guy a lot. Big play guy, but played in anything but a pro-system and came out after is So. season. Not a sure thing. Wasn't even the best WR available. They didn't need Percy Harvin, #22, but Hakeem Nicks (#29) and Kenny Britt (#30) are NFL recievers. A bigger DeSean Jackson, but Jackson was a better pick last year because he had to run routes at Cal. 

@ #21 What?! Browns go smart and pick a stud interior OL/C with Alex Mack.


@ #27 Indianapolis takes a little know RB from UCONN, Donald Brown. Smaller guy, passed on Beanie Wells. They like his versatility. Not sure another good running back is what they need to improve their running game; I thought they needed OL. Like the kid, don't like the pick. 


Patriots per usual trade down twice to get picks.
@ #34 New England goes with a "need" pick, S Patrick Chung.

@ #36 Browns goe with a "need" pick with hometown favorite Brian Robiskie 

@ #38 Bengals strike gold as USC stud ILB Rey Maualuga falls in their lap. Best pick of the draft.  

@ #40 & #41 Patriots take big, local DT Ron Brace to help Vince Wilfork and another need pick at DB, CB Darius Butler. I think they'd be very lucky to pick up a quality LB* at #58, but they get quality where they need it. Three defensive picks! 
*Last "best" LB, Clint Sintim, just went to NYG at #45

Finally!!! @ #49 Chicago "WE NEED A WR!!" Bears take... OH! trade! 
Trade = no WRs left    Bears won't pick today 

Here come those Browns picks @ #50 select WR Mohamed Massaquoi. I'm going to call this nothing more than a "luxury" (possibly wasted) pick since the Bears passed on him, but it's hard to say it's a good or bad choice at this point in the draft. 

Finally @ #51 Dallas trades their pick!, and they don't pick today. This draft is not top heavy!

@ #52 Browns take DE David Veikune from Hawaii. No bad picks at this point.

@ #53 Eagles take a need pick at RB with Westbrook clone, LeSean McCoy

Colts move up from #61 to #56 and take USC DT Fili Moala. Wow! great quality at this slot

@ #58 Patriots take OT Sebastian Vollmer. Not surprised they didn't go for a LB here.



That's all for day 1

Cincinnati D -- they got the best and worst picks of day 1    I don't care what anyone says about Andre Smith, I don't pick him at #6 when there's another stud right there.

Philadelphia D+ -- They passed on a big back in Beanie Wells, so (for better or worse) McCoy ensures they don't have to change their system. But I really don't like the Macklin pick.

Cleveland B -- Mack was a great pick and Robiskie a good pick. Stockpiling picks is great unless they just waste them. Considering the Stallworth situation, I understand the desire to go for a WR, but I have to say the Massaquoi pick was a throw-away since the Bears passed on him. Way too early to start throwing picks away.

Indianapolis C+ -- The Brown pick just doesn't make sense to me, but they scored big time with Moala.

New England A -- filled needs and stockpiled picks

Thanks Babble for that excellent breakdown of the first 2 rounds of the Draft  I hardly see any College Football so can't really comment too much on any of the recruits so thanks a lot for you comments on them

Day 2

@ #68 Chicago, with their first pick, take the best player on the board, stud DL Jarron Gilbert. Reinforces the lack of depth at WR. Their DL played subpar last year. We drafted a kid last year at WR, Earl Bennet, that never saw the field. Dute better be ready. Anyway, great pick!

@ #69 Dallas picks a small school LB Jason Williams

F'in Eagles. Now we have 3 (4 if you add Reggie Brown) of the same receivers. The Eagles are definitely gonna let Mcnabb walk after this year because he needed a big possession receiver. The Eagles are gonna to change the offense to run and shoot since that is the offense Kolb ran in Houston.

They drafted a Westbrook clone because Brian is probably gone after this year as well.

I don't really have much to say this year because I didn't really watch College Football last year so I am unfamiliar with most of the players.

thanks for the break down babble, got to catch a bit of the draft but it's nice to see what it all meant to different teams other than my own.
