The cheapest I have ever seen gas was back in college, probably around 1996-1997.  I saw it for 88 cents per gallon.  That was pretty low for even then, but $1.00 per gallon was not that uncommon back when...  I miss those gas prices.  How the hell did we get to $3.00+???

I have vague pre-OPEC memories of prices in the 30s and 40s. Well, technically not pre OPEC, but before they started jacking up the price of oil.

A group of oil producing nations that got together in the mid 60's. They control, or at least influence the price of oil, and the amount of oil that is distributed.

I remember right after the invasion in Afghanistan, gas was less than $1/gallon.

Man, 95 cents in 1999.  Sad we more than triple that in 8 years.
