OMG MARIA BACK INTO A GRAND SLAM FINAL AND THE FINAL OF WIMBLEDON AGAIN!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :shakey: :swoon: :crying: :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :shakey: :swoon: :crying: There were times the past 3 and a half years it looked like this day may not ever happen again for Maria but she showed how much she loves the sport by fighting back despite being set for life with everything she has and for me I never stopped supporting or believing in Maria for 1 single second and this victory is just about the most sweetest and most significant of Maria's career and 1 more will top absolutely everything in Maria's career and never EVER be surpassed. The match ended 6/4, 6/3 over Sabine, who actually started the match much the better as she quickly went 3/0 while Maria couldn't get a read on Sabine's serve and was really struggling with her own serve, really worrying with 5 double faults the first 2 games. But after saving a breakpoint at 0/3 Maria turned things around brilliantly as she really started to get a read of the Sabine serve while despite the serve continuing to have its struggles with 13 double faults in total Maria fro mthe baseline was simply brilliant all day. She really was dominating once they got into a rally as well as returning fantastically well after the first couple of games. Maria served out for the first 6/4 and then carried this momentum on to go 3/0 up a double break and despite Sabine continuing to fight Maria broke her to clinch the match and her place in the Final! :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :shakey: Huge day for both with the injuries they've both come back from so really hope Sabine looks back on this as a brilliant 2 weeks and going upto about 27 in the rankings is huge for her.

For Maria though its Grand Slam Final number 5 and here we go for title number 4 hopefully and the most special and significant of them all :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Maria through to second Wimbledon final :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :shakey: :cloud 9:

Maria is through to her second Wimbledon final after she defeated Sabine Lisicki of Germany.  Maria won 6-4 6-3 in 1 hour and 27 minutes.

This is Maria's first Grand Slam final since the beginning of 2008 at the Australian Open.

Lisicki got off to a strong start in the first set as she built a 3-0 lead.  Maria got the set back on serve at 3-2 when Lisicki hit the ball into the net.  At 4-4 Maria broke Lisicki to serve for the set and and then Maria holds her own serve to take the set 6-4 when she serves an ace down the middle.

The momentum Maria gained in the first set carried over to the second set as she broke Lisicki's serve in the first game to love.  Maria got another break to lead 3-0 when Lisicki hit a backhand into the net.  Lisicki was able to break Maria in the next game but Maria broke Lisicki back to lead 4-1 when Lisicki hit a shot wide.  The next game was a long game on Maria's serve which she eventually held to lead 5-1.  Lisicki won the next two games but Maria broke Lisicki in the next game to book her place in the Wimbledon final.

In the final to be played on Saturday, Maria will play No.8 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic who is playing her first ever Grand Slam final.  Maria has played Kvitova once before at Memphis last year and Maria won 6-4 6-3.

Maria provisionally moves up to No.5 in the WTA rankings with 6141 points.  If Maria takes the title she will move up to No.3.

Wimbledon 2011: Maria Sharapova brushes Sabine Lisicki aside to set up final with Petra Kvitova :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :skakey:

Maria Sharapova blasted her way through to a second Wimbledon final with a 6-4 6-3 victory over German wild card Sabine Lisicki this afternoon.

The fifth seed, who will play Petra Kvitova on Saturday, overcame a poor start and 13 double faults to move to within one victory of reclaiming the title she won as a 17-year-old in 2004.

Sharapova has not been in a grand slam final since winning the Australian Open in 2008 but has showed this year she is at last over her shoulder problems and will be a big favourite to defeat Kvitova.

Lisicki was the one playing in her first grand slam semi-final but it was three-time slam champion Sharapova who looked the more nervous, with her sometimes vulnerable serve letting her down.

Two double faults helped Lisicki break in her opponent's first service game and she quickly made it 3-0.

Sharapova battled extremely hard just to get on the board in the next game, not helped by two more double faults, but that seemed to calm her nerves and she broke to get back on terms.

Lisicki's run to the last four has been the story of the Wimbledon women's tournament, with the 2009 quarter-finalist needing a wild card after dropping down the rankings following an ankle injury that ruled her out for much of last year.

The 21-year-old had been hugely impressive in wins over French Open champion Li Na and Marion Bartoli but she was on the back foot as Sharapova found her range.

When the Russian brought up a break point in the ninth game, Lisicki could not find the answer, and Sharapova then served out to take the set, somewhat ironically, with an ace.

Sharapova had the bit between her teeth and Lisicki rather crumbled in the opening game of the second set, serving two double faults of her own to be broken to love.

The world number 62's booming serve has proved a huge weapon but she could not get it going today and Sharapova took a firm stranglehold on the match when she broke again for 3-0.

Lisicki seemed distracted by the drizzle that had started to fall but play continued and she was handed a lifeline as the fifth seed took her tally of double faults to 10 to be broken for a second time.

Sharapova may have had problems with her serve, but the rest of her game looked in rude health as she pounded Lisicki from the baseline and, although she saved three break points, the German could do nothing on the fourth.

That put Sharapova within two games of victory, and the shrieks grew ever louder as she came out on top of another battle on her serve to move to 5-1.

Lisicki had won just two games in their only previous meeting in Miami earlier this year but she forced Sharapova to serve it out, and that proved a challenge the Russian was not up to, broken thanks to a 13th double fault.

It was only a short delay for Sharapova, though, with some crunching returns earning her a first match point, which she took when Lisicki fired a forehand long.

Wimbledon 2011: Maria Sharapova returns to Wimbledon final :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :shakey:

Maria Sharapova recovered from a dreadful start to beat Sabine Lisicki and reach her first Wimbledon final since she won the title in 2004.

The fifth-seeded Russian will play Petra Kvitova on Saturday after winning 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 26 minutes.

A rash of errors left Sharapova 0-3 down but she took nine of the next 10 games against the German wildcard.

Both players struggled on serve, with Sharapova hitting 13 double-faults, but some big groundstrokes saw her through.

Sharapova, who has fought back from a serious shoulder injury that threatened to end her career, is into her first Grand Slam final since the 2008 Australian Open and will be favourite to triumph against Kvitova.

But she was fortunate that 21-year-old Lisicki crumbled and was unable to produce the kind of tennis that had made her the surprise package of this year's tournament.

Sharapova made eight unforced errors in the first four games and only avoided a double-break when a Lisicki drop-shot landed a fraction wide.

But, after eventually holding, 24-year old settled down and began to dismantle the serve that has been such a weapon for the world number 62 this fortnight.

Sharapova was soon in complete control from the baseline, frequently finding the corners of the court with some thumping forehands and over-powering her opponent to take the first set

A double-break at the start of the second set left Lisicki hoping for rain that never came and put Sharapova on the brink of victory.

She continued to struggle on her own serve, but attacked every Lisicki delivery to end up a comfortable winner despite making 18 unforced errors in what was an erratic display.

It is seven years since Sharapova's triumph at the All England Club as a 17-year-old, the longest span between final appearances at Wimbledon on the Open era.

"It's amazing to be back in the final, it's been a while," she told the BBC afterwards. "I'm really happy, even through I didn't play my best tennis today. She played really well in the first few games and I did quite the opposite - but I remained really focused.

"I haven't gone past the fourth round here for a few years, but I still feel I have more to do. Kvitova is a great player on grass and is playing really good tennis - it'll be a tough match, but I'm looking forward to it."

Sharapova into second Wimbledon final :yahoo: :grind dance: :applause: :cloud 9: :shakey:

Three years after major shoulder surgery threatened to end her career, Maria Sharapova overwhelmed her demons and her opponent to earn a place in her first Grand Slam final since she won the Australian Open in 2008. Strangely immobile at the start, the 2004 Wimbledon champion steadied herself to beat the German wild card Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-3 in a disjointed encounter lasting 87 minutes.

For the first three games 24-year-old Sharapova could barely get a point on the board. Her serve, so greatly reduced as a weapon since that surgery, utterly deserted her. It all looked like a horrible repeat of her French Open semi-final against Li Na just a month ago, especially when she began racking up a potentially disastrous double fault tally from the word go.

By contrast it was 62nd ranked Lisicki who appeared the old hand on the Centre Court. Relaxed and smiling, no matter that she was bidding to become the first wild card to make the women's final in Wimbledon history, she reached 3-0 at a stroll.

It was the game after that which seemed to prove crucial. Sharapova got to 40-0 and looked on course for a steadying hold, but a curious lack of confidence took her back to deuce. She then delivered one of her ill-timed double faults for break point. How much rested on the outcome of this single point? Lisicki had control of the rally, yet contrived to put her forehand wide. Somehow Sharapova cobbled together a struggling hold from there, and it made all the difference to find herself at 1-3 instead of 0-4.

This was one of those times when Sharapova's fierce, inward-looking concentration was on full burn. She was working the problem, and dictating the pace. Lisicki still seemed relaxed, even smiling when she gave break point for 3-2; but she stopped smiling when a steaming Sharapova return sealed it. The Russian was wearing down Lisicki, regaining ground - and confidence - inch by inch. It was no surprise when at 4-4 the 21-year-old sent the ball long again for the decisive break. Lisicki had started to misfire. Sharapova wrongfooted her on the baseline to bring up two set points. Lisicki rescued the first with drop shot bravado but Sharapova simply aced the second.

Now it was Lisicki's serve which was absent without leave. Unforced errors were galloping in, giving Sharapova three break points. Worse still, Lisicki took a leaf out of the Russian's book and double-faulted to give the break. Sharapova's own game was knee-deep in doubles, but she was also sending down unreturned serves, and urging herself on with every point. A light drizzle began to fall. At 0-30 Lisicki asked umpire Louise Engzell if they could stop, but was refused. Once again her serve went awry. It was 0-3. Lisicki kept going, returning cleverly to force two break points, and watching as Sharapova duly double-faulted. She had one break back, only to return it next game.

If only Lisicki could have held on to her own serve, she might have been able to make more of Sharapova's horrible double-fault habit. But for one thing Lisicki did not add a single ace to the 44 she had delivered throughout the tournament; and for another, the Russian was in bellowing, fighting mode. Once the ball was in play Sharapova was far less vulnerable, and at 4-1 she rescued two more break points against her. The best Lisicki could do was make her opponent serve it out - and right on cue Sharapova delivered yet another double fault to make it 5-3. But it was only delaying the inevitable. Match point came via a mighty Sharapova forehand, whereupon Lisicki sent the ball long. Sharapova has still not dropped a set this fortnight, and will be the hot favourite against the inexperienced Petra Kvitova.
