Hi Sid!!! Deportivo is in bankruptcy, they had a lot of money til the main tv channel finished to broadcast their games 2 years ago...let's say Deportivo can not sign the foreign stars they had in the past....sadly, no more Super Depor. A difficult season for sure!!!
Sid, the "new big club" taking Depor's place is Villareal (only 9 seasons in Primera!!!)

Deportivo is quite a different club in Spain, founded in 1906, 39 seasons in Primera, they were nothing til the 90's,
they lost a liga in 94 in the last week of the season at home missing a penalty in last minute vs Valencia -unforgettable drama-, but finally they won a liga in 2000 at home in dramatic match vs Espaņol, ( they also won king's cup final in 95 vs Valencia, the revenge!!!)
best match for sure: Centenariazo, Real Madrid celebrating 100th years in the King's Cup final at home in  Estadio Bernabeu and losing to Depor (2-1) in unforgettable fashion!!!!

Some excellent looking matches next weekend there looking at those fixtures, and a lot of teams meeting one another that are close in the league table right now. Huge games to go towards deciding just who will claim those Champions League and Uefa Cup spots and then at the bottom who will stay in the League. Athletic Bilbao are in danger in last 10 years when all the rest of spanish clubs can play with a lot of foreign players (Bosman!) sad, they play with basque people, that's unique among best domestic leagues in the world, it's cool!! they had good players always, won 24 cups. Athetic were til the 90's the only spanish club to won at least one domestic title every decade!!!! They are unlucky in Europe, losing one european final to Juventus, Espaņol also has lost twice in european finals, unlucky!! Big 9 clubs are abvious, 10th is between Betis and perhaps Deportivo. Athletic has a very nice tradition in liga, that I think must tell you, Pichichi was a star in the club in 10's and 20's, great forward, died very young and 1st big funeral for a spanish legend. Pichichi is the name of throphy since 1928 to the player with most goals in liga season, and sweet: La Catedral is the oldest primera stadium, when a new promoted club plays there at San Mames they pay tribute in Pichichi statue with flowers praising the history of liga...that's a wonderful tradition , all new Primera clubs must do that!!! Athletic can not play in Segunda, but they were close to relegation in last 10 years....
As you can see Segunda is mega-strong competition also  , 22 clubs, 3 up to Primera and 4 down to Segunda B: 16 former Primera clubs, 3 most experienced clubs in Segunda never promoted, 2 small new clubs in and 1 youth team -Sevilla Atletico- that can not win gain promotion bc Sevilla plays in Primera. newly relegated: Real Sociedad after 40 years in a row in Primera!!!, Celta de Vigo!!! and Nastic de Tarragona!!!!!
