Just 2 points between Real Madrid and Barcelona right now and tonight both play as we get underway in just  a few seconds with Real at Recreativo who are in a huge relegation battle, before Barcelona head to the capital and the Vicente Calderon to face Athletic Madrid. Should be a great night as both games televised live over here

16 minutes and Real who have lost their last 3 away games, and lost their 9 point lead in La Liga find themselves 1-0 down to 17th place Recreativo!!

on this day in history: 1902 - The birth of Real Madrid. - March 6th

On a previous "on this week" we covered the formation of Barcelona so it is only fair that we also mention Real Madrid who were founded on this week back in 1902.

Sociedad Madrid FC, as they were initial called, came out of the ashes of Club Español de Madrid who in turn were once part of a club called Football Sky.

Like so many football clubs around the world there is an English connection, as Sky were founded by the professors and students (who mostly had Oxbridge links) of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza back in 1895.

Madrid made a quick impact on the Spanish football scene winning the first of four consecutive Copa del Rey titles in 1905 which was the only statewide run competition at the time.

However, it was not until 1920 that they started to call themselves "Real Madrid" after the King granted the title of Real (Royal) to the club. Success has never been far away from Real, and their nine European Cups is a record.

In 2000, FIFA awarded the Spanish team the title of the "Best Club of the 20th Century."

Here we go again: Braveheart Español in front at Bernabeu, playing very agressive, near red cards. el clasico de aliados is wondeful match as always.
Español with 5 players from youth strucuture, one of the best youth clubs in Spain.

Its just a brilliant first 37 minutes for Espanol and what a fantastic job their doing in the Bernabeu, Real on the other hand had better get a grip of things because it seems of late its just 1 defeat, and 1 bad performance after another.
