Who's Game Do You Most Resemble?
« on: March 15, 2005, 10:40:44 PM »
As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I live and die by the serve and forehand, so I'd have to say my game is a poor man's imitation of Roddick.  And since I am a lefty with a decent volley....Johnny Mac and Roscoe Tanner.  I wish I had Connors' groundies.
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

This might sound girly, but I have copied the serve of Maria Sharapova... haha :lmao: Certainly not as strong though. I guess thats the only thing I can say is a good resemblance to any professional player. I do have a strong two-handed backhand, but nothing like a professionals.

I don't play an exciting style.  I can kill the ball when I want to but I rarely do.  I can go weeks without going for a big shot.

Conchita Martinez... Vincenzo Santopadre... Cyril Saulnier... Emilie Loit... Felipe Lopez, but I don't come to the net as much, and my serve is nothing like his... maybe Scheng Schalken but I don't come over my backhand as much as he does.

Basically, a heavy top spin forehand, slice backhand, looking to execute patterns that don't allow the opponent to get a rhythm.

Hrm...give me a few months to screw my game over and I'll be like Santoro  :)~
Not that it's a bad thing  :))
I don't who my strokes resembles. My strokes are fluid enough that I can hit the ball without effort. A few years ago, I tried to make my forehand like that of Philippousus, it didn't work. Then I tried making my backhand looks like his, that was even worse. My strokes are in "no man's land" as far as resemblence. But they're nice enough to make people I hit with want to hit like me.

It's funny, TimD.  I've hit with you two times and I can't even begin to form a picture of what your strokes look like.  Strange.

I should be back to form next time we hit. I was still looking for my strokes and timing. I'm a little more consistence now, you up for hitting this Saturday?

Interesting question, well my coach has basically tried to shape my game to most resemble Safin and a little of Nalbandian. But I'd say it's a combination of players, I have a heavy serve, am heavy off the ground, I like to use variety, slice, dropshots, angles. I like to throw in the serve and volley play once and awhile and I'm pretty quick. So I would say it's a combination of Coria, Safin and Henman.

Definitely.  Let me know where and when.  We can play a bit earlier, too.  I'm off for a couple of weeks.

I guess I am not really sure.  I hit a lot of kick serves and come to the net behind every first serve.  Reminds me of what Rafter did.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I play sort of like Ferrero I guess.   I like to run alot, I like to hit the big forehand, and hit some higher shots off both forehand and backhand, but step in and clobber the forehand often too.   I like to stay back to return serve, I dont like to volley, but like the drop volley when I do come in.  I like the wide serve the best, I hit it well, dont like the middle as much, and hit some kick serves as well like Ferrero.

Scott - you are more like a serve and volley Michael Chang.

haha...didn't mean that as an insult.  You are quick like Chang, but you serve and volley.  I am more like a slow Andres Gomez.  Is it possible to be slower than Adres Gomez? He is me with quickness aghhhhhh.

In a way this is kind of embarrassing but I have been told that I play like Serena Williams mixed with Roger Federer. I guess that that is good.

I wish I were told I played like Serena!  I'd take that as a compliment.

My game is more baseline but i move pretty poorly, good for my height though. Ok at the net. Im not sure who that resembles the most. But i always thought more Lindsay. And my serve is a huge weapon. I think more LIndsay than anyone else.
Its all good...

Jumping on the bandwagon of embarrasing things --

Everybody tells me my forehand looks like Venus'. Which I used to take as a compliment considered she was #1 and all...now that its the suckiest part of her game - I'm kind of shameful. Anyhow, I use my backhand most of the time....like Venus does and I hate coming to net. I think I'm pretty much a baseliner...I dont have a very effective serve tho. Its slow as a mofo cuz I hit lots of spin but it always goes in. Kind of a bad thing, I guess. lol

Thanks! They say that my serve is like Serena's b/c it's really fast. I can put it in the corner pretty easily since I'm a lefty. But my friends say that my overall playing technique is like Federer's.

Well I like Serena's technique on her serve, it's well disguised, she places it well, gets allot of spin and movement so it's probably heavy. So it's a good serve to copy male or female.
