How fast can you serve?
« on: January 19, 2008, 11:52:01 PM »
I have never had my serve clocked, I am sure it is far from unimpressive in terms of speed.

Has anyone here had their serve clocked before?  I am curious to see what people think they are laying down in terms of speed.  Maybe Jamesdster and OSU can stab at what my flat serve speed is...  I am clueless.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I was clocked at over 100 and that was long ago.  I have to believe I could clear 110 MPH now.   I would definitely guess you could also hit at least 110 MPH.

What do you think that puts DW at?  I am guessing my flat is close to his, not sure it is bigger or not, I doubt it.  Now it's too bad I cannot bring that heat consistently...

Way back when I started playing tennis, my serve was clocked at one of the tournament booths at around 110. But those booths are not a very good test. You walk up cold and start cracking serves. Bad test, and not good for the shoulder.
I'd love to see what it really is now that I've learned to serve better (in reality I've learned to serve since), and I'm able to warm up and play before getting tested.

I guess I can't really see any of our serves being over 120 MPH because think how close that is starting to get to the pros really solid 1st serves.  Maybe more like 115 MPH for DW at his best.

I'll estimate I can crack 100 at my very fastest but I would also say that's a very rare thing, I would say my 'good day' fastest serves are 85-100. Mdshahid I believe can crank it around 110, or at least 100 a little more frequently than I can.

These are pretty rough estimates I would say, wouldnt' be surprised if I was way off. When I started playing tennis, a totaly newbie, I used to play with this kid who used to think he was all great and used to brag about his serve being clocked 76 mph. And I never had trouble handling that serve back then and I know for sure I was able to hit faster two-three years later. Since then my form has only improved (and so i need considerably less effort to achieve those speeds) and I do at times shoot for some faster serves just to make sure I can still do it (I don't worry about speeds much, I have mostly been using my good form to keep stress off my arms and place balls well) and I know I can hit it well beyond what I could from back in the day.

I've had mine measured in the low 90's, but I think my % serve hovers around 80mph. My 2nd serve...if it's 50mph I'd be surprised  :(

I got it clocked at my club once about a year ago.
Just blasting the ball about ten times with no accuracy.  The fastest I got in was 114 miles per hour.

My normal with placement would be 90-100.

Scott, do you want to know how fast we hit the ball into a net at a booth? Or do you want to know how fast we've been clocked during a match? As Dmast noted, the booth thingy isn't a good test.

That said, how many people here have been clocked during match play? One, maybe two or three?

I got it clocked at 105 mph, but that wasn't with my racquet, so maybe a few mph more.

I've never had it clocked but It's definitely my biggest weapon. I'm guessing 120's on the first serve. :scared:

Woah, that's seriously impressive. Judging from the name, I'm guessing you're pretty young as well?

15 yrs ago I entered a fast serve contest while playing at the WV Open and was clocked at 120, and I would've sworn it was at 130 but you don't serve nearly as fast as you might think you are.  I'd say Scott could hit 113 - 116, there, how's that for an estimate?  On a good day, I think I could still hit 120, just can't do it many times in a match anymore due to a touchy shoulder.  So now they are far and few between.

I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

I have faced yur serve Jster and I would think 120 is right!  It is/was one of the best serves in our area, that we compete against!  It is a 5.5 serve easy!

I tried to avoid this thread but I'll go with it. :rofl_2:

Fastest I've had clocked was 133mph

Average in matches 120-126mph

I rarely hit flat though, I try to focus on placement and spins.

Pretty respectable. I spin most of my serves in as well.
