Arlen Specter Calls NFL Commish on the Carpet
« on: February 01, 2008, 08:49:37 AM »

My question..... why?
Why is congress even interested in this issue? What does this mean to the American economy, or the War in Iraq? How does this negatively affect the population?

Is a tree as a rocking horse
An ambition fulfilled
And is the sawdust jealous?
I worry about these things .

He's grandstanding a bit here to build his case against the NFL.

In reality, it's about TV rights. Spector has introduced legislation last year that will strip the NFL of its antitrust exemption that permits the league to negotiate its television contracts for all 32 franchises, rather than have the teams do so individually. He thinks customers would be better off if teams negotiated individually.
