you know, after reading the article you are caught up in the emotion and the police will definitely seem bad for not having done anything. But think about it, what could the police have done? I mean threatening to have them both arrested if she calls again is definitely going too far but what could they have done? Nothing had happened and there's this girl calling the police multiple times on one person.. 17 year old girl.. on an ex boyfriend.. might as well be a prank call. What could they have done? Put a restraining order on someone (on what basis) who'd have no problem breaking any knida rule if he's going to kill someone and kill himself..

It's really sad.

The police can't predict the future, and I can't imagine how many times the police have gotten calls from bitter and angry men and women who make up lies about what their boy/girlfriend has done and wants them to be arrested.  It was a judgement call on the part of the police, and in this situation it was unfortunately the wrong one, but I don't think they could be held liable in this situation.  Not enough proximate cause. (Both my parents are prosecutors)
