I liked Eternal Sunshine the most of that bunch. Cuckoo's Nest was quite tragic. I may have seen Office Space come to think of it. I don't care for mafia movies although The Godfather is one of all time favourites. Goodfellas was quite good so was Casino even though you don't have it in your list. Chasing Amy was very good and I thought Ghost World was quite interesting. I saw Ghost World very recently so it's still very fresh in my mind.

I have some other movies that I can recommend to you. Mulholland Dr., Donnie Darko, Fallen, The Butterfly Effect, The Cell, Primal Fear, L.A. Confidential, The Prestige, Sin City, Blade Runner, Children of Men, Stalker (one of the very best and I've seen the Russian version, the original one. Very slow. It took me two weeks to complete it as it came in two discs but was well worth it.) These are all off the top of my head. I am sure I am forgetting many. Most of them are not your everyday movie but they deal with disturbing minds and I am always fascinated by it. I most interested in Sci-fi however.

Anyway, you did not say anything about L.A. Confidential. Did you not see it? It's brilliant. I never get bored watching it over and over again.

I am watching Oscar at the moment. Very disappointed about the best supporting actress award. Penelope has a very tiny role in Vicky yet she gets the award. What are they smoking? Also, I think they should have gone straight to break after the Heath won and the family accepted the award on his behalf in the best supporting actor role. We all needed a moment. Stupid Oscar.

Hugh Jackman, btw, is doing a great job so far. I was just reading the first hour live Oscar blog. Hilarious stuff!

On a entirely different note, I don't find Penelope Cruise neither sexy nor beautiful.

It goes without saying at this point that Slumdog is getting the best pic. It's the overwhelming favourite anyway.

Anyway, I don't think I will get any sleep tonight as am way past it. Oh well. It wasn't so bad. Very happy that both Kate and Sean won. Still pissed about Penelope's. That's the only thing that went wrong. And extremely happy for A.R. Rahman. Those kids are so incredibly cute!

 Penn as usual deserved it...wanted Meryl Streep(as she's one of my all time favorites) to win but also wanted Kate to get that one this time and happy for her too... Ledger obviously deserved it.
I find Penelope Cruz very beautiful actually! Anyway....Slumdog with 8 oscars takes the cake....I would have expected Curious case to win nothing actually considering its run at golden globes...but has won a couple?

I didn't, nor do I want to, see any of Kate's films this year. But I love her, so I'm glad she won. Don't know anything about Cruz's catagory, so I won't comment on that one other than to say I'm sure she deserves it because she's cute. Pretty crap year overall. The only movie that I want to see that I haven't seen is Frost-Nixon. Other than that, Slumdog and Milk were the best of 2008. I think I liked Milk a little more because of Penn and Brolin--they were fantastic. But as far as a great year goes, 2008 does not rate high.

The whole ceremony was OK. I never give so much care for the oscars and the winners,but again,this time I was so glad to see that Heath Ledger has been given one.Although the whole tribute thing was modest, I guess I expected more..Or I missed it during the last year ceremony ?

Hmm... I know LA Con was well received, but no one ever compared it to Goodfellas. Maybe next time I'll watch it all the way through. Thanks.

Any movie that has some kind of global recognition/appeal going on, no matter how corny they are, will get the Oscar as the best movie; that is, if they get an Oscar nom.

L.A is about the police corruption in LAPD post WWII so it's different than Goodfellas in that sense. I thought guys dig these sorts of movies if they are not gay, but I could be wrong. Even though I am female, I don't like chick flicks. The only reason I watch them from time to time is because my other female friends watch them a lot and I don't want to come off as a snob to them. I get teased enough.

We went to see P.S. I love You just last year and I made some comments about it and they totally flipped. I merely said that was a complete waste of two hours and $12.

I was speaking in terms of the Best Picture and the Best Director not the best supporting actress. I think everyone knows that Kim Basinger won that category, whereas I felt all the most important acting came from the three main characters in L.A. and not to mention, L.A. was far superior than Titanic. When you leave the theatre Kim's character is the last thing you want to remember, so who cares about that? I wanted to puke at Titanic. What a load of crap.

LA Confidential is a fantastic gritty drama. Russell Crowe's coming out party, as well as Kevin Spacey. They had been seen before, but they really hadn't been SEEN before Confidential. Life in LA through the eyes of the police during the the days of Dragnet.

Critically acclaimed, it currently holds a 99% rating at Rotten Tomatoes with 73 out of 74 reviews positive, as well as an aggregated rating of 90% based on 28 reviews on Metacritic. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won two, Basinger for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Hanson and Helgeland for Best Screenplay - Adapted.
