Avatar wasn't at all my type of movie so I was very disappointed to say the least. I am too reluctant to call it a sci-fi or even a sci-fi fantasy. I don't know what it was to be honest. The Lovely Bones was even worse. The direction was horrible and the story had too many pot holes to deal with, so I didn't know who to blame for this disaster.

I did like Shutter Island quite a bit. The storyline was so very strong that even a novice director could have made a great movie out of it. I came out of the theatre thinking, I had just seen a great movie but on a second thought late that night, I realized some other director could have done a better a job given that this is really not Scorsese's field of work. Cape Fear was pretty good though but he didn't do as good a job with this one. Also, I thought either Edward Norton or Brad Pitt could have been much more convincing in the leading role of Shutter Island...or even Matt Damon. I don't understand his fascination with DiCap frankly. Some actors are only good for certain specific roles in my opinion and DiCap is one of them. He's certainly not made for every role out there.

I also saw The Road which was quite good but very depressing.

Speaking of the movie The Trial, it was shown on TV this Sunday and the one directed by Orson Welles (I think there are two more versions of it) too. I couldn't help but notice that the trial scene in the Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country was somewhat influenced by the bizarre trial scene from this film. But both are quite good on its own merit.

"Platoon" is one of my favorite films. Everybody talks about Charlie Sheen, but the best performance was by Willem Dafoe.

The most chilling moment, for me, came from a relatively unknown movie called Damien: The Omen II where Damien finally learns about his true identity that he's actually Antichrist and upon discovering he screams out at the sea, "why me?". I found that concept quite haunting and wondered for weeks why indeed him. The movie does not live up to its expectation though as the first one, as Damien quickly accepts his true self and goes on a killing spree shortly after, but I wish it had gone the other way as in rather than accepting it so quickly, he would dwell on it for a while and that, I thought, would have given the character a lot of meaning. I had problems accepting it's that simple.

I had also wondered if there are demons and angels among us and if so, then once they discover who they truly are, how do they go on about living their lives. I wonder about these things.

I was out at the movies tonight. Saw a really good dramedy about a mussed up Bronx family called City Island. :good:  Have to admit, I'm a sucker for films set in Brooklyn or the Bronx. Great cast, stars Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies. Makes up for the colossal disappoint called Greenberg I saw a few weeks ago. :thumb-down:

"El Secreto de Sus Ojos" is so awesome. Many subplots, so much going on. We had great fun reconstructing it after.

Movie night, Bab has another recommendation.
Saw Cyrus tonight. It's a messed up dramedy about a man (John C. Reilly) who falls in love with a woman (Marisa Tomei) who has a really unhealthy relationship with her son (Jonah Hill). I liked it very much :) :)

#3t -- depends on your mood
Shutter Island -- very good/effed up psychological thriller

I am debating whether to see The Social Network or Hearafter this weekend. I am more keen on Hearafter, because that's more my cup of tea, but I am hearing good things about The Social Network. I had Facebook once and only for a brief moment, so I have no emotional attachment to it. On the other hand, it would probably be interesting to see how a Harvard undergrad came up with this idea or what prompted him as well as how he went on about this business of his and became a billionaire. That's more intriguing than the idea itself, no?

Such dilemma. But I guess I can watch both.

I was thinking "It's Kind of a Funny Story," which stars Zach Galifianakis, who's way overexposed right now.

We'll see.

The Social Network was fantastic. I'm going to see it again tomorrow. Jesse Eisenberg deserves nominations for that performance. Justin Timberlake....... not so much.

You know, the guy kinda looks like you, with the beard and all.  :)~

So I am sticking with Hereafter this weekend. Would like to see some meaningful stuff and some fine directing from Mr. Wood along with some fine acting and what not.

I don't suppose anyone who has Facebook will miss this movie -  my sis being one of them.
