How on earth could running shoes last longer than tennys?
They are only designed for the stress of forward motion as opposed to the stop & start /side to side motions of tennis.  In addition there is no additional material in the toe.  You must not be a 'toe dragger' like I am....

Plus, running shoes are 1. not allowed on tennis courts due to the fact that they mark up the courts more than tennis shoes and 2. not good for tennis because they don't give you the lateral support you need for the cutting and starting and stopping you do when playing tennis. I predict a few rolled ankles and the like in the future.

I used to wear puma cell running shoes when I started playing tennis again.  My ankles hated me for it so bad!!  They didn't have enough ankle support for cutting around the court and I ended up hurting real bad for days on end after playing.  I definitely wouldn't suggest playing in running shoes for too long.

It's not the lack of ankle support that makes running shoes bad for tennis. Tennis requires a lot of side to side movement. Lots of sudden stops from side to side. The running shoe is a very narrow shoe with the emphasis on fore to back comfort (rounded toe and heel), but little support in the sole for lateral movement. The sole is thin and long, while cross trainers and tennis shoes (and basketball shoes) have soles that have more ground contact width-wise. This gives you the support you need to brake and go in the other direction with the shoe supporting you rather than giving up and turning over.
That's why your ankles thank you.

I wear New Balance 1002.

A great shoe for $70!  I like the wide toe box and they feel light compared to the other NB models.  Also, the heel is a bit higher than some of the other models, which seems to get my weight forward a tad.  Overall, I think they're a great shoe.

Would love to try the Adidas Barricaide, but I'm sure they're not wide enough to accomodate my fatarse feet. :mad1:

I thought OSU said last night that he has the Barricades.  Those look like his shoes, I think...
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I love the NB shoes and then some.  Just ordered two new pairs yesterday.  Looks like the 653s are done at TW, I had to go to the 654s.  :)

A solid, affordable shoe, for sure.  I've tried the 600/800/1000 lines and all have been great shoes. :))

Dontcha just hate it when you find a shoe you love and the company changes/improves/discontinues the model? :mad1:

I was wrong my Wilson shoes now are defintely not Barricades.  My older shoes were like the ones in the picture though the cheaper model.

Me too. But I was just looking for a new pair of shoes and came across the Barricades. This discussion was in the back of my mind, and I just remembered to post it.

Nike Air Max Breathe free 3 (One of the former of rafeal nadal, before the breathe cage) Theyre great, great heel support, light dense.. i like em!
Alot of space for your feet, I got wide feet myself and im comfy! They werent direct fit for me, they felt great but at my wide side they felt a bit well dunno not right, but later that solved easily, perfect shoes with alot of durability.

Dont fight about tennis, support tennis.

I just didn't think I would be seeing a clay court tournament where Roddick is still in it and Nadal is out.   -   Dallas -  31 May, RG 2009

Thats odd to hear.  Usually nike and durability don't hold place in the same sentence.

I had to order shoes the other day and I found out that NB doesn't make the 653s anymore.  I had to order (2) pairs of the 654s.

Unfortuanltly, if they are for clay, they would get chewed up pretty quickly on hard courts.
