Topic: Year end #3 for men for 2008- Federer, Ferrer, Davydenko, Roddick, other?

Nadal is a clear #2 in the current ATP Race with the only part of the season including his worst surface of the 3 major surfaces: hard courts.   He has not even set foot on his 2 best surfaces clay and grass, yet is still a clear #2 in the race.   Yet he should be in a poll about someone who would finish only #3?        Novak Djokovic is a clear #1 in the current ATP Race, last year performed well on all surfaces, and currently leads the #3 in the ATP Race by a whopping 140 points already.    Again so he should he be included in a poll about the year end #3 why exactly??   

Since you seem insistent on comparing Federer to two men out of his league these days, rather then comparing him to his peers of tennis like Roddick and Davydenko, I will enlighten you a bit.   Federer is almost 100 race points behind Nadal already and the only surface that men have played on up until now is hard courts, Nadal's worst surface and Federer's best.    Nadal has not even set foot on grass or clay and is already almost 100 race points ahead of Federer anyway.    Federer has been unable to even come close to keeping up with Nadal on Nadal's worst surface.     Djokovic is already a whopping 171 race points ahead of Federer after less then 1/3rd of the season, and while hard courts is Djokovic's best surface it is also Federer's.     It does not take a brain surgeon to see certain things.

Just remember....it's a long, long season....

Yes and for your beloved Roger it is only going to get longer.    The guy isnt even able to produce top 5 results on his beloved hard courts, and now he gets the long clay court season coming up.   Ouch.    Then he has the pleasure of defending all his big titles on grass and summer hard courts to follow that.    It is indeed looking like a very long season for Roger.

It's interesting, after seeing the results, that "others" have gotten more votes, by far, than any other name you have in your poll...which goes to show that you didn't put enough names in  your poll to start with to get a better view of what others are thinking about.  Anything you have "others" getting more vote than the names listed - then you're not getting a good answer to your original question.

5. Tsonga (with 1 GS F under and 0 pts at 2007 RG, he has the most to gain whereas the others have more to lose)

I'd flip Djokovic and Federer, and keep Nadal #3. That would be my prediction.

Murray should make the end of year just as he not any points now to defend.Tsonga i would be shocked if he dont make end of year.Ferrer has a lot of points to defend this time,if he going to make he needs to play good tennis.Davydenko will be there,be a massive shock if he not.Roddick & Nalbandian i reckon will be there 2.If Ferrer dont make it maybe Mathieu,Youzhny,Blake,or Gasquet will get in by the back door.Baghdatis & Ferrero as bigger outsiders maybe.
