I got my first match of the year tomorrow.
I'm not ready!
My strings are 8 months old and I've delayed restringing so many times that it's too late now for my first match. 

Racquet: Head os radical strung with 62lb main and 60 crosses, sensation duo is what's in there. Who knows what the tension is now. Plan on restringing depending on discussion with a MRT about strings and tension. Possible new racquet may come out of the consultation.

Physical shape: Blood pressure 95/65. Pulse: 57 Beats/Min.
Out of shape, haven't done anything for 5 months except work (and post  ).

Match statistics: Usual time of matches is 2.5 hours. Longest match was 3.5 hrs in 94 degree midday sun. Matches are best of three with no tiebreaks. If one player wins the first 2 sets the third set is still played. So all matches are 3 sets. The motivation is to win the first 2 sets and use the third for game pressure practice.

Haven't devised a workout plan as yet but enjoy working on it.

I just play singles, never played dubs but sounds fun.
No association with any clubs or anything like that, just play with the locals.
Not much time for me, I work 6 days and that leaves me time for 1 match a week on sunday if it doesn't rain.

lol, that's the only stat I have that's good.

Finished my match today and won 6-2, 6-3. Only 2 sets today. 
Not a bad 1st match of the year. I was slow in reaction and movement. I expected body movement to be slow but not reaction, usually my reflexes are very sharp but not today. I went out last night... late.

Good to be out in the sun and playing, I enjoy it so much.
Next match may be next saturday in later afternoon, work permitting. 

I didn't notice any change in my strings, but maybe I can't tell after not playing since November. I have to get a new string job and/or racquet soon though.

Got in a match today!
My opponent was really off, just nothing was going right for him leaving me a 6-2, 6-1 win and no third set for practice. 

Not a lot of fun really, only 3 or 4 dueces.

I really like tighter matches and the drama that goes with it. Maybe more to report next week.

I didn't believe myself when I saw the Journal's section and it said "Swish's Journal" and I was like "wow have I really not noticed this for the past year and a half?!"

Good job with the match wins. Have you like played practice matches or just hit around lately or just directly into these matches?

Also how do you like the sensation duo in your racquet? And how's the durability slash tension hold, you said it felt fine after 8 months of sitting around doing nothing - that's impressive.

Good match Swish!  I am glad to hear that you like close matches rather than just beating up on people!   There is a formula for success though that I am pretty sure I heard somewhere............play some matches where you win easily, some against players exactly your level, and some aginst tougher competition.................the reasons for these are pretty obvious!   Unfortunately, I only play against people my level and very rarely against lesser or better competition.

First we hit around and practice serves about 20-30 minutes then into the match we go.

Also how do you like the sensation duo in your racquet? And how's the durability slash tension hold, you said it felt fine after 8 months of sitting around doing nothing - that's impressive.

Seems to holding tension very well, I see no difference since last year, I'd like to try some other strings but maybe I'll keep these for awhile.

The guy I played was so very bad today that I couldn't feel like I did a lot to win, hence it wasn't so enjoyable. The tight wins with a lot of contested shots are the best wins.

Well, I just got off the phone and have a match Saturday. This guy I'm going to play says he's going to teach me a lesson! So I'm fired up. 

He wants to play cowboy so I'm going to hand his spurs to him.

Had a decent match today with a 6-3, 6-1 win. The guy I played was out late drinking taquilas and beer. 

The forhand was not working at all, every time I tried to put some good pace on the ball it went long or netted. My follow through was bad and I couldn't seem to correct it. Luckely I had a easy match, hardly any long rallies, just errors all over the place.

I'm not sure what to do about the forhand, it was much better last week. The ball kept twisting the racquet, my grip was too loose so I tightened it up but after a few hits it was loose again. I haven't had this problem for a long time and don't know why it came up again?

I'll just have to be more aware of it I guess.

I got to play again today in a rare 2 match week.
6-1, 6-4 win. 

No problems with the forehand today, was hitting some great angles with good topspin, lots of pace on the ball and accurate placement.

Came to the net about 10 times and got burned only 2 or 3 times with unreachable lobs but no passes. I have to delay coming in a little bit so not to give my opponent too much time seeing what I'm doing. If I delay too much I get stuck at medium depth which causes problems and chancy volleys.


I'm very pleased with my game so far this year.
Next match will be saturday or sunday so I can enjoy these matches till the next one.

A tremendous match today. a win 6-8, 6-0, 6-2. 2H 45M.
I've had this guys number for awhile and he rarely takes a set from me.
But today he took the first set and acted like a complete arse, strutting around and trash talking about a dream he had winning today! 

My game was fine but he was really on in that first set. Besides I've been up since 2:45 AM getting ready for work. ( I always have an excuse ready!!  ).

In the second set I dropped the hammer and took him to school! 

He kind of fell apart and it continued in the deciding set.

We both enjoyed the match as the points were so critical. 

Many dueces and some solid shotmaking, volleys and serving. Win or lose I really like the battle. After about 2 Hours my energy was draining and it took a lot of mental pushing to concentrate. Both of us were forgetting the score now and then. 

next match should be next weekend.

Reading these other journals it seems no one hardly runs into the kind of people I do, I guess that it isn't serious players as the reason.
I don't mind as I am not the most etiquette oriented person on the court either.
