I remember back in '96 or '97 when I was designing a web site for a company back in California, the mantra was keep the page under 30 kbs. Pictures had to be compressed to within in inch of their lives, and limited to perhaps 2 or 3 at the most. Now the average web page is over 300 kbs.

Interesting post. I remember when I first started browsing. I used dial up and got 30-50 Kb per second and all was well. As time went on the pages took longer and longer to load. So a couple a years ago I went with DSL and all is well again.

It's the other way 'round. They web sites are bigger because the majority of us now have broadband. Either DSL or cable. If that wasn't the case, if we all still on dial up, the 30 kb limits would still be in place.
