I can't root for the dodgers while they play philly
Normally, I be saying Go Blue!. But with that homewrecker Ramirez there, it's pretty tough.
I wonder who will be dumb enough to sign Manny next year?
Good question. Someone will though. The real question is what kind of contract will it be? How much for how long?
Anybody who signs him for more than three years should be fired on the spot. I see Manny in the same vein as Pedro Martinez. Pedro played the Mets against the Red Sox, not just to get top dollar, both were willing to give him the same amount, but he wanted that 4th year guaranteed. The Mets would and the Sox wouldn't. Look what the Mets got, they payed Pedro 4 years at $14 million and got about 1 year out of him. That's exactly what the Sox expected to happen, and that's what happend.
As for Ramirez, I think his main thing was he wanted out of the option years so he could get a 4 or 5 year contract at top dollar (he's 37 now). He will give what ever team that signs him one solid trouble free year, and one solid, but difficult year, then he will tank the rest of that contract. There will be nothing that team can do about it.
What he didn't want is to have to earn that $20 million dollar option each of the next 2 years and then have to try and earn yet another big deal, if he can, at 39. That's why he basically quit on the Red Sox and forced them to trade him. The man just has no conscience.
