Hi everyone, Welcome to the park. Hope your summer is going well. Mine
sure is. I am playing lots of tennis and getting a great tan and winning
every now and then too. (so what else can an old hacker asked for? {:-)
Well, this article is going to address the issue of the volley being
an offensive shot. Odds are that if you hit your volleys defensively it's
going to be a losing shot. So there is no reason to go to the net if you
only have a 50/50 chance of making the point. There are two purposes for
the volley: either you make a winner with the first volley, or to prepare
by placement, or to take it on the second shot. Otherwise you'll be forced
back by a lob or passed up the line or even cross court.
Don't forget that when you are in the volleying position, you are to
be open cross court on either side forehand or back hand so your approach
shot whether it be on the service or the drive, must be well placed. And
remember you must watch very carefully when your opponent hits it in order
to anticipate his return and get into position before it reaches the net
if possible.
Always punch your volley with a minimum back swing and for the best effect
your racket should meet the ball out in front of you. Never be hesitant
about the volley. And remember always think aggressively when you get
to the net and take your shot. My friend Bob K always says playing at
the net is like cheating. And it can be when you make good offensive volleys.
Well, thanks for stopping by.
